My first travel blog so "bear" with me. Of course I've only been here one week and I've been sick for half of it, which tends to happen whenever I travel anywhere, but thankfully my Mom had me take every med I could possibly need with me and I started the antibiotics ASAP.
I took this gorgeous mountain shot from ATV training and I saw my first moose! Apparently they are prone to charge and you have to run away from them, the opposite of a bear encounter. I have a great view of the mountains from my apt shared with several other field techs who are all super nice, there are 17 of us which only 3 or 4 of us are women. I guess there aren't very many of us who don't mind camping outdoors for a few months in the cold without a nice shower and bathroom. 😊
Still getting used to the 11:30pm sunset and 4am sunrise and have made it through a lot of training! I have had bear safety, gun safety, ATV training, CPR, wilderness first aid, and a lot more training to come this next week and then we get started putting together our camp. I will be working in a really muddy swampy area near Palmer that isn't known for bears, but is more of a prime moose habitat.
Hoping to spend Memorial Day weekend in Denali National Park and share more entertaining stories and photos soon.
