One for the cricket fans - I have introduced them to the great game...
We decided to take a cruise up the Rhone on a paddle steamer to make it interesting for the boys. The Camargue is a vast marsh like land where the Rhone meets the Mediterranean, where black bulls are herded by gaucho like herdsmen called Guardians and where semi wild white horses roam.
The Tiki III paddle steamer was a pleasant meander through the brackish waters looking at grey heron, flamingos, gulls, black bulls, white horses and a staged encounter with a guardian.

Dangers and Annoyances

The Long, Long, Long Lunch

Not so much an annoyance as an art form…

To orientate ourselves with the Camargue region we went to the Camargue museum but timed our arrival badly and arrived just as they shut for the customary 2.5 hour lunch break that has been the bane of our travels so far! Every time we get up, play games, have breakfast, wash up, drive 30 minutes we arrive just as everything is about to shut.

The Loos

A definite Danger - When you pull over at an Aire (rest area) you really can’t anticipate what you are going to encounter. We have had lovely, clean all singing and dancing automatic loo/washer/drier combos a joy to behold and conversely the dreaded Turkish hole in the ground squat type with a flush so fierce you can guarantee a soaking to the knees.

Hi guys, must have been a struggle towing the caravan up the Rhone ? Glad to see also you are trying to introduce the frogs to the great game. Sounds like you're having a great time still, despite missing out on the odd lunch - my heart bleeds for you :-) ATB Robin

Aah, the long, long lunch ..... it always catches us out too when in Europe, mainly for a couple of days but hey you have three months ..... and then the loos ..... my advise never, ever, ever, ever use a service station loo in France. A bush will do! Am enjoying reading your blogs and good to hear your news. Will read some more now, Love Vicky xxx
