Goodbye SydneyGoodbye SydneyGoodbye Sydney

The family says goodbye!
After an early start this morning, a super easy check-in at 8.45am, we had a quick brekkie at Sydney airport. One thing I found out…Singapore Airlines allows 25kgs baggage not 20kgs! YAY an extra 5kgs coming home!!!

With final goodbyes, Todd and I passed through customs about 10.30am. We had some trouble finding the Tourist Refund Scheme office. When we finally found it there were about 5 people in line! Final boarding we hear over the PA! For our flight! After processing my GST refund for my mobile phone, MAC make-up and jeans we ran to gate 58. We were the second last bunch on! They changed the departure to 11am instead of 11.30am! We didn’t even browse through duty free!

Anyways the flight was GREAT! WOW! Singapore Airlines are fantastic! Food was really yummy and the flight attendants were really attentive and friendly. As soon as we got on we were given our hot towels (a bit too hot ouch!) then served drinks and nuts. We didn’t go with the extensive alcohol menu but decided on diet coke. Later in the flight they ran out of diet coke - I think we cleaned them out! Lunch soon followed

Singapore Airlines flight was excellent!
- creamy chicken breast, steamed veggies, bread roll, antipasto, and ice-cream for dessert.

Their inflight entertainment system is very impressive! I think they had about 15 movies to choose from. Also, it’s “video on-demand” meaning you can start, stop, pause, rewind, forward a movie as you please. I watched a Disney movie called Glory Road, a bit of the Notebook, bit of Jerry McGuire and bit of Rumour Has it. Todd watched half of Glory Road (he got bored of it half way), Deep Impact and a doco about an Autistic kid.

The flight was about 7 hours I think but it didn’t seem that long. I think it helps to watch tv. We also got served another meal before we landed - chicken & leak pie…very yummy! Todd said it was the best pie he’s had.

Arriving in Singapore was all too easy. Our suitcases were the first ones out, and customs don’t check a thing apart from your passport. The airport was fairly empty and we didn’t even have to wait in line for a taxi, there were heaps waiting.

Singapore is so CLEAN! It kind of looks like Sydney but CLEAN and of

So clean and green!
course humid. Very humid. But not as humid as Manila. Our taxi trip cost us $18 SGD. I think it was about a 15 min drive. After checking into our hotel (Rendezvous Hotel on Bras Basah Rd), our porter (Eric) took our bags up to our room. Turns out he’s Filipino and lives here in Singapore with his wife.

Once settled we went for a walk down the famous Orchard Rd. We ran into Eric outside and he guided us half-way down Orchard Rd telling us good places to shop / go. Very helpful. Todd and I walked only half of Orchard Rd. It’s one long strip of shopping centres, stores, stalls, food centres, etc! A few of them were closed or closing. I found a bunch of market stalls where I think I will get souvenirs from. No fake stuff here! So different to Manila. Did see some nice Lacoste shoes I *might* get  before I leave.

Todd and I grabbed dinner at MOS Burger for the bargain price of $13-14 SGD. It seems to be a Singaporean version of McDonalds. We both got the MOS cheeseburger and shared some fries with chilli sauce. I got a guava juice yum! The burger was alright actually. Reminds me of Jollibee in Philippines.

So after that we headed back to the hotel. We are both quite tired…and well Todd wanted to watch the FA Cup Final on tv…yes…our hotel has ESPN and about 2-3 other sports channels. Lucky Todd ha! He is also switching between the NBA (Phoenix vs LA Clippers).

So what’s the plan tomorrow? I don’t know. Maybe a half day tour to see the main sites in Singapore. Maybe a walk down to Chinatown or Little India.

I’m writing my blogs in Word and will have to upload this when we get connected. We actually have Internet connection at this hotel but am holding out connecting…withdrawal symptoms…

Till next time!
