Glen and Antelope Canyons

We had two great adventures in Page , Arizona, and wanted to share.


There are lots of pictures which is always best. Ron's sister, Carlene, invited us along on a trip that she was taking with friends Lee, Holly and Wayne - from Alpena. We met them in Page and started right in trying the top rated restaurants in the area. The two favorites were Bonker's and Fiesta Mexicana - for anyone heading that way.




Our first trip was to the Glen Canyon Dam to board a raft for a float trip down the Colorado River. We had a great weather day for our 3 hours on the river. The current did most of the work with an occasional use of motor power from the guide. The canyon is in the Vermillion Cliffs area and was carved by the Colorado River as it ran through ancient petrified sand dunes. This is an area that has been occupied by prehistoric cultures throughout the centuries. When we pulled into shore for a lunch break we had an easy hike to an area covered in petroglyphs.




Our next trip was to Antelope Canyon which is located on the nearby Navajo reservation. The canyon is only accessible with a Navajo guide. The canyon has been carved mainly by water in the form of flash floods, but also through wind action. In 1997, 11 tourists were killed in the canyon by a flash flood caused by a thunder storm 7 miles upstream. They have since installed some safety equipment.


The canyon walls are beautifully sculpted, but also narrow , steep and tall. The six of us had fun going down ladders and squeezing through canyon walls.

Hi Tam & Ron. Great pictures. Looks you have plenty of beautiful vistas to take in. Enjoy. From the photos, Looks as though Ron is back on his feet. That has to be goos new. Spring is sloow coming here in the Great North. Beautiful sunny weeks we have had, but the nights are cool. Soon it will be safe to return home. I will keep you updated. ;- ) P
