I always think of Venice as my silent friend... and she never lets me down. It's one of those places that we always return to and just the idea of going there fills me with pure happiness.
I must say a word or two about the famous odor some people relate to Venice. We all heard and read so many stories about the "smell of Venice" that may discourage some people from even thinking of visiting this spectacular Lady. However, during our visits (in August and late winter) the smell was not something that captured our attention. In every street and around every corner we stumbled upon exquisite little world that instantly overwhelmed all our senses: delicious pastries spreading their unbelievable aromas down the streets, frisky flowers ranging from the lowest to the highest in color, vibrant colors and shapes of the houses, smiles on unknown people's faces, silent murmur of water, kind touch of the Sun in the canals... It's as simple as that.
...or is it because we approached Her with our hearts fully open?
