Wednesday March 2, 2011

We are making this final blog entry. We got busy at the front of the trip and were not able to blog the first day.

Roy Wolf picked us up promptly at 6:00 AM and gave us a ride to the airport. We made our plane with plenty of time to spare. We only six people on our flight to Newark. We arrived in Newark around noon and had lunch at our gate. Around 2:00 PM we met our group from Ft. Worth. We made our introductions and prepared for out 10-1/2 flight to Israel.

We boarded right on time and left with a full plane. The flight was a bit bumpy but got a chance to sleep a little and watched Social Network for my movie selection and Sherry watched Secretariat. The economy seats in a 777 Airbus never let you you get too comfortable. We also had a bumpy flight for most of the way.

At around 6:30 AM I awoke to a number of Ultra Orthodox Jews beginning their morning prayers. Pretty weird to see the ritual they go through to get dressed and read and bob their heads to

their prayers. I have attached a video of them praying. We came into Israel over the Mediterranean Sea and were amazed at farms and irrigation we could see. We landed, got our bags and headed through security. We met our group and our tour guide Yoval Sharon. We got on the bus and away we went to the north and west to our first stop at Caesarea Maritima. This was a port King Herod built out of stone and created a man made port for ships to bring cargo to Israel. He also built a palace next to the port as well as an ampitheater and race track for chariot races.

We left the coast and begin our tour inland towards Nazareth. We stopped at Mt. Carmel and were treated to an unbelievable view from the top of the mountain. After the stop we had lunch at a Druze village. We have included a picture of the food in our blog from Thursday We had problems with our camera and some of the pictures ended up in Thursdays (March 4) blog.

We finished our lunch and headed to Nazareth. We went up to the hills west of Nazareth

and viewed the Jezreel Valley and Mt. Tabor. We also viewed a steep hill which could of been the hill the jews attempted to throw Jesus from after his reading of Isaiah 61 in the temple. See Luke 4:14-30. We left the Nazareth and headed to Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee for our first night in Israel. We checked in to the Gai Beach hotel, had a wonderful supper and called it a night!

love your travelblog narrative
Sherry&Doug, I think of our travel buddies when I awake at 2:30 A.M. on Friday morning then 5:00 A.M. today. Getting to know you two was a delight and added blessing to the Israel trip. We will continue to pray for you and your family when God brings you to mind. I got Richard and Greg to the airport this morning for their Spring Break in Haiti. There are 45,000 Cholera vaccines sitting in the airport waiting to be giving to the Haitian people. Unfortunately, the authorities won't release them without a bribe. Please pray these vaccines make it to the people who need them while this team is there to administer them. We loved traveling with y'all. Christi

Thank you
Good morning Christi, Sherry and I are struggling to get back on a regular sleeping schedule as well. Our prayers will be for Richard and Greg on their mission to Haiti. Sherry and I were so blessed to be able to enjoy our "Trip of a lifetime" with you and Richard and all of the rest of our new friends from Ft. Worth. I find it hard not to be thinking about our adventures and the beauty of Israel. Look forward to seeing all of you again! Doug & Sherry
