Floating in the Dead SeaFloating in the Dead SeaFloating in the Dead Sea

Unbelievable, you just sit back and float!
Saturday March 5
We left Tiberias at 8:00 am this morning. We are heading south to the Dead Sea.
Mediddo, one of the oldest ruins in Israel. Megiddo was the site of many battles and at least twenty five different civilizations. Most of the ruins were not discovered until 1925 by the university of Chicago. The site was very valuable to who ever controlled the site. Christian tradition identifies Megiddo as Armageddon-Revelations 16:16.
Harold Spring bubbles up from the Gideon cave at the foot of the Gil boa. This was the site, where GIdeon's soldiers tried and selected for the war against the Midianites. See Judges 7:1,7:16-17,6-7.
Our last stop before lunch was at Bet She an national park. The city was home to 30,000 to 40,000 people. The city was destroyed by the Assyrian king in 732 bc. It was famous for the final battle for king Saul and his sons by the philistines. They were beheaded and their bodies were taken to the city and hung on the walls of the city. Later in history, the Romans rebuilt the city and built the temples, bathhouses, and colonades.
We stopped at a roadside restaurant for flafa pita bread sandwiches. We

got a chance to take a picture of the Israel Defense Force soldiers. Sherry and I also got a chance to sit on a camel.
We finally arrived at the Dead Sea. Beautiful hotel and spa and less than a block from the hotel. Israel is amazing, we started this morning in a lush green city next to the sea of galilee. By 3:00 this afternoon, we are in the desert.
We got checked I and headed right to the sea. Amazing, you cannot sink! The water is 30 to 35 percent salt. Really cool, you just sit back and float! We finished in the sea and met a lovely jewish woman, Tova, on the way back to the hotel. Once back at the hotel, we went to the spa. The spa had a warm pool with the dead sea water. It was wonderful. We were informed by the pool attendant, that women had to leave the pool, only men from 6:00 to 7:00-and they can swim naked! Women can swim naked between 7:00 and 8:00 AM!
We have had a wonderful trip, more than we expected, - I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Love,

Doug and Sherry
