Exploring the Island of St Martin over the months of January- March 2011 Is amazing. I love this island, from the luscious green rolling mountains on the horizon to the white sandy beaches always accomponied by a rustic, grass hutted bar with the famous rum punches flowing freely amongst the sun kissed locals. The planes flying low over head as you sip your punch at the sunset beach bar and standing in the jet stream of a 747 about to take off was a highlight. After work we would go to the beach across the road and the boys would play touch rugby while us girls watched them all hot and sweaty in the last reflection of light that the caribbean gives off at sunset.. Beautiful island rugid and natural. Taking a secret abandoned path to Pic Paradise the highest point on the island and seeing the island from the heavens was breaktaking. The ocean glistened like a blue sapphire catching its first glance of light. Making our way down from Pic Paradise to the Lotterie farm which is a bar/restaurant wiggled in between palms and shrubbery with white linnen and wooden accents, sofas and brightly scattered cushions to make for a relaxing lunch and cocktails. Taking quad bikes around the island through Phillipsburg on the dutch side through Marigot on the French side and seeing little routes and pathways that really made an experience of the more rough, rigid side of the Caribbean, the real island experience! With houses crumbling, stray dogs at each corner and narrow dirt paths all around. St Martin is still a natural island not too commercialised. Karakters Beach bar is a delightful place to be on a sunday with music playing and bean bags scattered throughout the white sand, people sun baking and drinking an icy cold daquiri while others or lined up at the abandoned broken down bus thats been made into the bar. St Martin is a spot of green and gold plotted perfectly in the Atlantic ocean with a great tropical climate and makes for a great stay here if you enjoy heat and touches of rain showers through out the day. I'm so glad that I have gotten to really take in St Martin and heres to checking this box.
