I was up early this morning and ready to go for my tour. THe bus came and picked me up at 7am. We had a pretty full bus of 15 people. I sat next to an aussie lady who was from Darwin. A lady infront of us was from Slovenia so I had a good chat to her about where my relatives are from there and she knew the area which was really cool. As we drove out of Perth we made our first stop in a town called York. It’s a small historical town with all kinds of cute old buildings.
We continued on our way and stopped at a small town for some gas and we made it maybe 15 km out of town when our bus decided to break down. It was so hot out and our clutch melted. The engine still worked so we could still sit in the bus in air conditioning. The 15 of us made the most of it while our driver got on his satellite phone.
We were stuck while the owner of the tour company was trying to organize a mechanic and a tow and a new bus out to
us. Luckily after about an hour a local farmer came along and was kind enough to open his home and farm up to us. He and his wife came and picked all of us up and took us to his farm 5 minutes up the road. It was such a hot day and this farmer had an outdoor pool for us to swim around and hang out in. It was so kind of him!
After we all cooled off the farmer had some yabbi’s for everyone to taste. Yabbi’s are freshwater shellfish that look a lot like prawns. Then his son came around and took the group us out onto the farm to see the sheep and then to their other water hole where they have Merrin. Merrin is a freshwater shellfish as well but they look more like black lobsters. Yuck hehe. After about 3 hours on the farm a local school bus was sent out to us.
We had another car towing our trailer full of equipment and we all piled onto the school bus and set off for wave rock. While we were meant to stay at another place for the night we were behind
about 5 hours so our guide decided to camp out at wave rock.
Wave rock is a natural rock formation that looks just like a big wave. It’s pretty cool. We all took a bunch of photos. The flies were soooo terrible in this spot though. I was constantly waving my hand in front of my face to keep from swallowing them. We had bush spaghetti for dinner and we all had a couple of drinks and then it was early to bed. Bed of course was a Swag. A swag for those who don’t know is basically a one person tent in a way. It’s made of canvas and zips up the sides and inside is a small foam mattress. There is a flap that can go over your head incase it rains. So I slept with my head out under the stars. SO AMAZING! The night sky out at wave rock is awesome.

Sounds like you made the most of what could have been a 'not so great' time. Thanks to the bus breaking down and the farmer and his family, you enjoyed a different experience than you had planned. The swag sounds neat-- as long as there aren't any mosquitoes!!! I think the wave rock looks sooooo cool! How could it be created so perfectly? Isn't nature awesome?
