So my 38th birthday was last Sunday and I decided to spend it basking in the sun at Lago Atilian. My friend Liz came with me and Christi and her host brother met us down there. I did nt take many pictures of the lake as I took a ton last time I was down there. What I did take pictures of were lots of flowers. On Sat. Liz and I took a boat from San Pedro to Panajachel and spent the day walking around a nature preserve where we saw monkies and coati ( cute racoon like creatures with long snouts) and lots of flowers, a few waterfalls and crossed 3 or 4 swinging bridges. Before we even made it to the park we passed a hotel that had tons of flowers. I went a little crazy with the flower pic. THere was also a butterfly preserve but as it wasnt supper sunny we didnt see many. THe hotel we stayed at thios time was run by Isrealis (didnt know it untill later that night) so needless to say there were quite a few Isrealis there on ther post miltary trips. THat night after going out dancing to a realy fun gypsy band we snuck into ( and later got in trouble for it ) the pool at our hotel where at midnight I was sung Happy Birthday in 4 languages! (English, Spanish, French and Hebrew!) On Sunday we had breakfast overlooking the lake then went swimming in the lake! Ah it felt so good! THe lake is huge and surrounded by volcanoes ( yes more than 1!) and mountains! THen we took a short boat ride to try to locate a friend of a friend but no luck so back to San Pedro. THe next day when I got home Olivai and Adrean my two friends from my hostel had prepared a birthday dinner for me complete with giant eclair type things!!!! Yumm ! Then Olivia sang the b day song in Italian bringing the count to 5!!!!!!!!! I had an amazing time! Today I finished school and will be moving on on Monday!
