Sitting by the Bunda
Botero, Plaza Santa Domingo, Cartagena Another Thanksgiving, and another trip down "south" as daddy says it is easier to travel in Central and South America than the United States during this time. He has taken me to Costa Rica and Honduras for Thanksgiving, and this time it was Cartagena, Colombia. Daddy had never been to Colombia so it was a first for both of us.
A short 2 1/2 hours flight, and we arrived. I loved the city. It had a cool wall that kept out pirates a long time ago and we stayed right in the middle of it at a place called Casa de Chicheria. While it was mostly dorm rooms, daddy and I had our own room. It had a cute little pool that I loved playing in after a day of checking out the city. Our first day we walked along the wall and I played with the cannons. We went shopping for dresses and dolls and took a horse carriage ride. For dinner, I was wanting shrimp and daddy found a cool little restaurant that we had a lot of fun in.

After dinner we went to the nearby plaza Santa Domingo. This
Thanksgiving Meal
VERY EXCITED Plaza Santa Domingo was my favorite place in the city. They had a lot of music and performers and sold a whole bunch of jewelry and instruments. However, my favorite part of the square was the big fat lady statue with the big "bunda" (botero sculpture). For the next 3 nights we ate at restaurants in this square, right near the big bunda. I loved this place. We had Thanksgiving dinner there, and since I did not have turkey and stuffing, I drew pictures of it and instead had really tasty spaghetti.
We spent 2 days going to the mud volcano and the islands of Rosario which are in another blog, but we also saw a lot of things around the city. One day it rained very hard, but we still made it up to the Convento de la Popa.....I had a lot of fun with umbrella in the rain and liked the different things found in the convent.

One day when daddy was going to take me to a restuarant, I saw a bunch of people eating some food on the street cooked by a woman. It looked good and fun so I asked
daddy if we could eat there....daddy was very impressed. We then ate some great "street food" like yucca stuffed with meat, arepas, and other stuff that we were not sure what they were. I loved it!
One of my favorite places in Cartagena, after the big bunda, was the Castle of San Felipe. I loved going down the dark tunnels. It reminded me and daddy of Scooby Doo. It was so much fun. It also had the biggest flag I had ever seen.

On the last day, we met a really nice woman named Karina, who stayed at our hostel. She went out with us to the Cafe del Mar.....we were basically the only ones there as it was raining a little, but we didn't care and it was beautiful. We then went to my favorite square with the Bunda and had a good dinner. I had a lot of fun showing her my sponge bob game
Scaring Daddy
Tunnels of Castillo de San Felipe and I think she had just as much fun with it as I did.
While I did not get any Turkey for Thanksgiving, I had a blast in Cartagena. The 2 day trips were a lot of fun, especially the mud volcano.

Great entry!
Hi, Cartagena is very very high on our wishlist...but it's a little more than 2 hours flight from Bangkok. Hopefully we will get there sometimes in 2012. Very nice to see both of you and already a Merry Christmas. Peter
