The Trip So Far

Well, up to day 5 already!! Not really, it feels like ages for us as we’ve crammed a lot in!! Here’s some of the stuff:
Day 3 began in LA, having brekky and getting to the airport for our 4 hour flight to Houston. From there, we had a quick (1hr) stopover before boarding our plane for Rio De Janerio. This was all on the 3rd October, arrived early morning on the 4th. Our 2nd Year Wedding Anniversary!!  And didn’t we celebrate in style!!
Didn’t do too much early, as we got to our hotel and the room wasn’t ready (was only 10:30am), so got some towels to have a swim. The water was FREEZING, as there was no sun, just a lot of clouds and wind. So we sat around until the room was ready. Had a quick meeting with the person who is taking us to the Football (soccer) match on Wednesday and by then our room was ready, so we had a quick nap, and got ready for our Plataforma & Dinner Show!! The dinner was beautiful, more food than you can imagine, and top quality. But after that, the show was AMAZING!! As you can see by the photos (took actually close to 100), the costumes, dancing and music was so good to watch. From Samba to Capoeira (cap-o-where-a) to Tap to Jazz to Samba, the night was filled with great talent. The photos really don’t do it justice, and you weren’t allowed video. You will all just have to visit to see it for yourselves. We had a great night (really long day…) we got back to the hotel at Midnight and CRASHED!! We were wrecked!!
Day 5 brought about our Tour of the City Highlights, Sugarloaf Mountain and Corcovado. Had a quick breakfast and jumped on the tour at 8:30am. It’s so weird having everything spoken in Portuguese or Spanish first, then English, as we are the minority. Still don’t know many words, but have Thank-you (obrigado), please (por favor), Hello (Ola), Yes (Sim) and No (Nao) down pat!! On the tour, first stop was Maracana Stadium. Stadium was once the biggest in the world, and is actually closed for preparations for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. You can tell they are excited!! After that drove past a lot of traffic, through downtown Rio where we saw some cool signs and hotels, amazing

These shoes have an awesome story, short one though, needed shoes (didn't have any!!), discounted down from $300 to $100 because of a wrong tag!! PRAISE GOD!!
architecture, and stopped at Sao Sebastiao, a HUGE Catholic church with inspiration from the Mayans.
From there it was UP, UP and UP on the cable car ride at Sugarloaf Mountain. This mountain (rock) is over 350m high, and it only takes 3 mins by cable car. It’s pretty quick!! Once up top though, the views are 360 Degree!! The photos don’t do it justice, as most of them are panaroma’s made by over 3 photos joined together!! The video is closer…. Up on top we also saw these cute little monkeys (Sangui)! They were very inquisitive of Tess (the Tiger), and Mischa even touched ones tail. Then it was lunch, another buffet BBQ….
After lunch, we passed some gorgeous beaches, and then went on the train up the hill to Christ Redeemer. This statue is over 30m tall, and stands on a mountain overlooking all of Rio, at 700m!!! The day had gotten a bit misty (and blowing a gale) by then, so couldn’t see too much, but the video and photos aren’t that bad!! After that, came back down the mountain, headed back to the hotel, had a quick dinner (Brazilian pizza and our new fav food, fried banana!!) and here we are!!
Hope you enjoy….tomorrow isn’t big, hopefully some shopping, relaxing, swimming and then onto the FOOTBALL!!! Mischa’s a little excited!! Cya then….
