After the hectic past few days, I spent today relaxing in Catanzaro Lido, the beach town, not the old town up in the hills. I swam in the Ionian Sea in spite of everyone telling me it was “fredino,” a little bit chilly. It wasn’t at all chilly. I looked down through the water to see my shadow on the bottom—the water was that clear. The beach is all small pebbles, no sand, and very hard to walk on. You can see from the photo that how few people were on the beach, and most of them were fishing or getting a sun tan. Except for one bus driver who made me run to get to the actual bus stop, I’ve met only helpful, kind people here. Tomorrow I will go with a friend I met, who is from NYC, to Isola Capo Rizutto. More about that tomorrow. Dogs and cats run loose everywhere, so I added a couple photos of them and one of a some snails for sale at a street stand—the red scooper is to recollect them into a pile just before they escape off the edge of the table.
Thank you, all of you who have responded
and let me know you're following my adventure.

Dear Julia, I am so excited to see Italy and get to know it through your eyes. Thanks for translating the italian words.Sorry you couldn't find your mom's friends family.I couldn't believe you dropped your camera, and here I have your old one. I think that its a wonderful thing that you have the opportunity to revisit a special place and the pictures are such a treat. You look happy in the pics. And I look forward to continuing "our" trip.Today is the first time all week for me to read your blog, I've had a wisdom tooth bugging me.It's coming out on the 11th.I hope I don't get a dry socket, I hear they hurt.I am so afraid of things...no apparent reason.Anyways I'm feeling much better now and I thoroughly enjoyed this today.Be safe and keep writing.Love, Linda
