Terror attack in the Bologna mainstation
On my way to Trieste I had to change train at Bologna. In the waiting room I saw a big memorystone with a list of 85 names and ages 3 years old up til 81, victims of an act of terror at Bologna station on August 2nd in 1980.
Terror is of all times but as long as we dont ask from our governments 100% security we will always be able to survive.

They were busy in the waitingroom preparing probably a tv programm by interviewing people and filming the memorystone. The makers of the programm were all younger than born in 1980.

On the stations in Italy you see a lot of police and every now and than soldiers on patrol. Even inside the trains on the mainlines you see every now and than police walking through the trains.

Left Rimini with the 8.08 morning train to Bologna, changed later again in Venice where I arrived with a delay of 1 hour on an 1 hour trip and changed for Trieste. The trip Venice-Trieste is a boring and flat landscape, However Trieste itself was for me unexpected beautiful. An old town with good renovations after the 2nd world war. Pity the weather became like in the morning in Bologna, cold , wet, stormy. First time work for my umbrella. Also in Trieste you have a lot of climbing to do . Again mountainious. Actually a place to come back

For the first time during the trip I could not pay my , via internet booked hotel, pay with a creditcard. The old night porter looking a bit like a hobbit was not able to make contact with the card machine. After 3 failures I told him stop I ll pay cash. Meglio, better, he said, easier too.

Tomorrow I ll leave for Belgrado. Leaving Italy after more than 2 weeks. I ll miss the food, the proschiuto; I love ham,.I ll miss finding in an easy way the toilet in the restaurants, next to the kitchen.
What I did not eat in Italy is soup, I love soup.
The famos Minestrone soup you can get in all Italian restaurants outside Italy

Bora and Soup!
When the Bora comes (a very strong wind from Trieste) the weatehr can go very crazy and everything gets blown around!!! And people have to hold on to each other!!! Also Friuli has many soups, you'll have to come back and try Jota, the frugal sauerkraut and bean soup from the hills above Trieste or the Minestrone alla Friulana con Orzo (barley, which we use a lot of) or Sòpe di Uàrdi e Urtìes (Barley and Nettle Soup) or the Friulan version of goulash or paparot (spinach soup). Bologna, la grassa, will have various soups too! I'm not a huge soup person but I think they have various with ham, potato, beans, tomatoes etc...... You could do a soup tour next time! Un giro d'Italia di zuppe!!!! By the way, did you try the prosciutto di San Daniele? My favourite! How's Belgrade?
