I love planning trips and Jag loves driving.. There are not too many similarities between 2 of us otherwise.. but this one really works 😊
Since both of us used to work for the same company then, it was easy to plan the trips as well.. We would wait for long weekends and plan some trip for all of them.. My work would be to decide the location and book the resort and his would be to decide the route map.
April 22: Our first trip was a surprise for Jag. Since it was his first birthday after our marriage, I wanted to make it special. With Chandan's help, (
Chandan being the hero of our group for bike trips and treks) I planned a trip to
Bheemeshwari. We went to the M.G.Road Karnataka Tourism office and planned the trip.. thanks to the old Philips Millenia office which was located at such a superb location .. convenient for all such things midst work 😊 And.. Jag was super thrilled when I wished him and asked him to start driving towards Bheemeshwari.. The drive was smooth upto a certain point, but the last part of it was on really bad roads.. however
this being a special day for us.. we just drove and didnt crib 😊
We had booked an AC hut .. which looked like a hut from outside but an awesome fully equipped room inside. We went fishing, boating, walked around, and hogged.. We went for a nice trek next morning and had a wonderful elevated view of River Cauvery as well .. Bheemeshwari was a lovely memory for us and is a great weekend getaway from Bangalore.
March: Our next trip was to Jag's hometown-
Somala. I was very excited and at the same time a little scared as this was the first time I was going to stay in a village. Jag's family anyhow made my stay (and all our stays until now) so memorable.. they are truely wonderful people with totally unconditional love for all. Our house there is surrounded by hills, lakes and beautiful paddy, coconut, sugarcane, etc. fields.. an amazing sight to see.. We are always on the quest for good resorts at nice locations and spend loads for them too, but there are so many such beautiful places in our villages which are unexplored!!
In May, Jag's ex-roommate Kiran got married in
Vizag. Whenever we plan trips we normally go to places with awesome weather by default.. and this time as we couldnt choose the location due to obvious reasons .. and it was hot!! 😊 Anyhow it was a nice trip otherwise. As Sandeepa's (Kiran's wife) dad owns a college there, the wedding was in the college and was a totally different expereince.. loads of people and lot of hungama. Suman being a native of Vizag drove us around.. and I loved the Shiva temple he took us to..
July: Then came the much hyped
Goa trip!! Chandan.. I remember bugging you numerous times on "why people go to Goa?" and how you used to wonder how you could convince a stubborn brat like me 😊 But I got my answer when we went there.. The trip was an all-paid trip by NXP (Jag's company) for some good work Jag did at office.. I dont even remember why.. anyhow who cares??!! 😊.. and hence Hammocks Holidays booked our entire trip.. flight to Goa and stay at Holiday Inn. The resort was really nice and since it was off-season the private beach had absolutely no people.. just Jag and I 😱
After a while all by ourselves, we started to miss the crowd and thus hired a Honda Activa. Jag and I rode around the place.. all around .. and in the rain. In the evenings the resort organized Goan dances and we would laze around in the lobby and enjoy a drink! 😊 Goa is one place where we would never feel we had enough.. waiting for the next trip now.. and this time we will drive down with friends for sure..
Oct 10th: Birthday time!! This time it was my first birthday after marriage and time for Jag to give me a surprise 😊 and he decided to take Amma and me to
Coorg! And now that the trip was planned by Jag, it was havoc! 😊 Since October is the Dussera festive season, there were no descent hotels available and hence Jag booked a home stay. The location was nice.. but... we were apparantly the first ones to stay there 😱 Plastic covers not removed from the beds, no buckets, no helpers, haha.. but since Jag was making his first attempt we decided to just look at the nice part.. 😊 Madikeri was over-crowded with huge decorations,
streets were flooded with sales of clothes and other things and there was something going on all night. We had a packed schedule ahead of us both days but we did manage some shopping in between.. thanks to Amma 😊 Since Amma was with us, we wanted to cover maximum places and hence went to every nook and corner of Coorg.. Abbey Falls, Raja's seat, Madikeri Fort, Kakkabe, Talacauvery, Dubbare... Since the drive was so beautiful, Jag decided to drive us to Bekal fort- Kerala as well and it was awesome!!! Felt like one of those heroines amidst lush green high grass and beautiful forts 😊 To avoid leaving out any place even on the way back, we also went to Bylakuppe Tibetian monastery... felt like we were in Tibet for a while 😊
Oct: Nothing much to do that weekend, we just felt like going on some weekend trip. A few days before that, there was an article in the newspaper on
Devarayanadurga.. a nice trekking spot. So we frooze on this place and all of a sudden Shantha aunty told us that there is a nice temple there and they would like to join us as well..
and there changed the plan.. trekking to pilgrimage 😊 If you have 1 day and nothing else to do and have no expectaions about your trip.. you can go here.. nice temples, nice greenery and thats it. However if you are serious about trekking, its worth it!
Dec: Now our next celebration time.. our first anniversary!! Unfortunately I had to travel to Eindhoven just on that day and hence we decided to celebrate our anniversary a week ahead.. There is this beautiful resort - Georgia Sunshine resort near
Shivanasamundram, nice cosy place, and an ideal place for a couple who just want to be on their own! We planned the trip with the intention to see the falls but enjoyed staying the resort more 😊
Dec 25th- Jan 1st: And finally.. annual shutdown time!!! Philips has this wonderful policy of shutting down the company from Dec 25th to Jan 1st every year and we have religiously made use of these holidays to the fullest until now !!! Thanks to my monthly international DLNA trips then, I had accumulated a lot of miles and since Appa was in
SriLanka, the obvious choice was made! Amma and I left on
22nd Dec itself and Jag joined us on 26th. Before Jag landed there, Amma and I planned the rest of our trip and did a great job of it 😊 The Srilankan Tourism Board arrange amazing trips around Srilanka.. If any of you plan a trip to Srilanka.. make use of this facility.. it makes the trip totally worth it. We took a train till Kandy (awesome experience though the woods and hills) and then drove all around in a rented chauffeur driven Hyundai Accent. The driver was damn irritating as he kept showing off about the different country citizens he has driven around and how Indians are not as strong (physically) as them.. uffhh, some crap!! Apart from that, it was great! The route was Kandy, Dhambula, Sigiriya, Ella, Nuwara Eliya and Colombo.. The first 3 places were more spiritual with beautiful Buddha statues and Fresco paintings and the latter two were astonishing hill stations midst tea plantations. Nuwara Eliya is apparently the place where Ravana had kept Sita in Lanka and they have built a temple at the same spot. This city somehow reminds me of Europe.. clean, awesome weather and very scenic. We spent the last 2
days in and around Ja-Ela (where Appa used to stay) i.e. in Colombo and Negambo beaches and shops. Most Indians go to Srilanka because of its proximity to India, but I think everyone must visit this wonderful place.. and must visit the right locations .. the hill stations, the wild life, the Buddha monastaries, Tea Estates and the beaches.. Srilanka - a must visit location but only if well planned!
