May 24th
It was the same morning routine as always, tea and toast with before beginning the day, but for this particular day we had absolutely nothing to do. Ahh what a great feeling not having to sit in the truck and go 200 miles!
The day was reserved for game drives around the national park. We had two choices, we could do the morning drive or an evening drive. I had originally opted to do the night drive, but ended up changing my mind. I was happy to just sit on the banks of the Luangwa River at the Croc Valley campsite and just listen to the hippos all day while I practiced on the drum. The campsite is amazing, you can check out a video of it
here (eventually). So the seven of us sat around the campsite, swimming, tanning, watching the hippos, playing the drum, and protecting the truck kitchen from monkeys. Around noon is when my undefeated reign on the ping pong table began, and still holds! Hahaha, 8 games unbeaten! After the punishment served on the ping pong table we all jumped in the pool and played some swimming badminton. It was an awesome
time, Justin and I got our asses handed to us from C-man and Maya but we all had a good laugh.
Afterwards we regrouped at the truck kitchen and Justin and Maya cooked up a big lunch so that we didn’t have to cook at night later on. The meal was amazing, a peanut sauce chicken and rice dish that was roundly applauded.
Shortly after lunch the evening game drive tarted and Nicio, Wendy and Farron took off for four hours. The remaining four stayed back at the camp and relaxed. We didn’t want to part with the $65 it would cost us for the game drive so we ended up playing some more badminton. After the sun went down we all did our own thing, some of us worked on laptops, others made necklaces, and others took naps. It was really relaxing and to have a day like that again was great.
We heard all about the game drive when the three came back. I knew I should have gone, if anything for the sunset over the park. Wendy, Nicio and Farron ended up seeing and having a pride of 17 lions around their open top
safari truck. They also saw loads of elephants and even had them mock charge the truck! I knew I should have gone with them! I’m working hard to be on a tight budget!
We had some tea after looking at their pictures and hearing all about it the drive. Afterwards we all kinda went our separate ways again and got work done on or blogs, photo backups, and book reading. It was a very tranquil night and I think I ended up falling asleep while working on the blog and watching a tv show.
Anyways, hope you like the photos! Take care!
