Train 1--Uptown. Note: No Heather in the photos. NYC Subway doors close very quickly. Shoot.
I can't believe it took me this long to come here! What a fan-freakin'tastic place! We got in from our piece of crap Continental Airlines red-eye from Seattle to Newark at 630 EST and proceeded to miss our first train into the city. A word on New Jersey--it is one of the ugliest, dirtiest, depressing, decrepit, festering places I have ever been. It literally is a swamp filled with garbage. If I had more wits about me I could have tried for a picture. Sorry friends, I may try and revolt you on our way out of town.

We hit Penn Station after the train and got on the subway to head to the upper west side. The thing I really liked was the sound--just like the movies. We got off the subway and one of the first buildings there was the 'restaurant' sign from Seinfeld. They never filmed in the restaurant but just got the exterior shots. It strangely made me fell like a tuna salad sandwich.
We dropped our bags at Kate's, hit an organic breakfast cafe up for some grub (where we had to listen to an obnoxious lawyer talking about his 16 million home not being

enough) and hit the city. First stop--the museum of modern art! Unfortunately there was a giant lineup to get in. Then the rains came. Then we got really tired, so we decided to delay and just hit up some of the other midtown sites. We went and saw the Rockefeller center, Chrysler building, radio city music hall, times square, trump tower, Etc. Of the bunch, our favorite was Grand Central Station-a really glorious building. They have this wicked marked attached to it. Just get off the train, get some fresh fish and sausages and head home, or get your personal chef to pick it up for you. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

We needed to stay out longer so we wouldn't fall asleep too early so we hit up the museum of natural history. Definitely the best rooms of death that I have seen. They were very, very lifelike. Heather enjoyed the monkeys and apes, I liked the dinosaurs and Andean bird headdress.

Well, off to queens and the mets game tomorrow!

Century 21??
Reading your blog makes me realize that the Polish Ninja and I are sooo in need of a trip to NYC!! Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself in one of the best cities in the world!! If you find it, you should have lunch/snacks at Dean and Deluca's. A fantastic grocery store which I know you will love! And really, I can't wait to hear all about the bargains you find at Century 21! The name of the cafe in Lisbon that Rob was telling you about is called Pasteis de Belem. If I remember any other fantastic places in Lisbon, I'll let you know. (Really Barro Alto is one big fantastic place!!!) Talk to you soon! Your Neighbour
