Flying high, it's the black, red and yellow!Until now Morgan and I have been traveling in countries that speak English as their first language so communicating has been a piece of cake, until now. What are we getting ourselves into?
Back to our jetsetting ways, we soared with Germanwings from Dublin to Koln. Before taking off, the flight attendant started talking to me in German and what did I do? I just sat staring at her, a complete blank look on my face not having a clue what to do!! Let's not kid ourselves in thinking I could speak German. I didn't even crack a smile, I was stunned! Isn't it written on my forehead "I don't speak German?" Yikes...how are we going to get by for the rest of our trip if that's my reaction?
Thankfully we weren't in Germany alone and my wonderful rellies were there to translate!
The next 8 days were going to be a busy ones. We hit up two fantastic cities in one day, Bonn and Koln! It was a gorgeous sunny but slightly chilly day with heaps of beautiful historic sites to see.

At the Klassens house for dinner! Nelli and her husband Eddy live. We got the true German driving experience when we hit, or should I say flew down the autobahn on our way to Berlin going 200km/h. Don't worry, we are still alive! You hardly feel like you are going that fast when every other car on the road is doing the same. We get excited at home when we can legally drive 110 on a freeway but 170 is just the normal speed on the autobahn! We got sun kissed in beautiful Berlin, the weather was fantastic and so is the city! We spent a couple days walking around seeing the sights with our own personal tour guide...Kirstin and Eddy's iPhone, both were very knowledgable and handy to have around!
We got to feel like locals when we took a bike ride along the river to Minden. In the evening we got special treatment at Eddy's parents place for dinner. We, and I mean all of us, made Pelmeni. It's a delicious traditional dumpling dish made with meat and onions, smothered with white mushroom sauce. The whole gang sat around the table creating dumpling masterpieces. While in Germany, Kirstin, Morgan and I learned as much of the language as we could and as a bonus we were taught some Russian words as well. Although I'm not really sure how one could use "yablika" (apple), "prostitipagalusta" (forgive me), and "spasibo" (thanks)....maybe "Forgive me, apple? Thanks?! It's a good thing we won't be visting Russian on this trip, we could use a little practice! We really enjoyed our time in Germany and can't thank (Danke!) the Klassen's and the Lowen's enough for putting up with us. Germany is a beautiful country despite its difficult past and we'd love to visit again!!

Ach, so. You're learning that life in Europe revolves around eating, mit grosse carbohydraten? Ye'll be ROLLING home, so ye will. Thanks for taking time to keep us informed. Today's weather here feels like your outdoor photos look. Pretty draughty. Have fun in Gay Paree. Stay out of the Les Patisseries et Chez le Boulanger( Can't remember if that's the butcher's or baker's.) Rumor has it that the French eat horse meat, so if your burger tastes like glue.....................Yuk, now I've made myself sick!
