Early Start

Given that I was now about five or so kilometres behind schedule, I decided I would get an early start for Pamplona from Zubiri. That wasn´t as much of a mistake as not stopping at Larrasoana for desayuno. There seemed to be plenty of places along the way that would have something open. Not so. It wasn´t until Arre de Trinidad at nearly 1:30pm that I actually got to have something to eat! Was just a bit peckish.

Travelling Companions

I will fill in some of the details later, but given the nature of the Camino, I thought that I might tell you about who I met along the way. This might need some revision of previous entries, but I am sure you will cope with that. Today was more interesting because I walked alone for much of the time. There has been a Scouting party on the Camino, and they passed me again today. Full of enthusisim and vigour, and incredibly polite. Today one of them gave me a tentative ´Good morning´. Much the same as the tentative ´hola´ that I am capable of, so it was nice to hear someone try.

Much of the rest of the way to Pamplona was spent without familiar faces, although la senora de la puerta y su companero passed me late in the morning, and we exchanged greetings.

Good Friday in Pamplona

Along the way I had visited the church at Zabaldica, and the nun who was telling people about the church found out the times for the Good Friday services at Pamplona for me. So I knew that I would be in time to attend one of the afternoon services. Following that, there was the Good Friday procession, complete with a tableau of the crucified Christ being carried through the city. There were a dozen or more hooded me at each end on four beams, and they were able to carry this whole apparatus no more than 10-15 steps before having to stop and rest. I guess it was clearly meant to both signify and replicate the physical Christ´s journey to the Mount.

Easter
Good fun keeping up with your progress and commentary Doug. I can hear you 'speaking' - you write just as you talk in conversation. Must haven been quite something to experience Easter on the Camino. Looking forward to more blogs. Smiles Monika & Jim
