Friday Afternoon was spent on a little trip to Kuala Lumpurs Batu Caves, A Hindu Shrine in the mountains to the North of Kuala Lumpur City Centre. We took our first bus ride which wasn't that bad ie we got the right bus and arrived without any drama. The bus dropped us in the middle of a busy intersection so we had to manouver our way through traffic. We eventually got to the safety and were greeted by a huge golden staue and 270+ steps up into the mountain!! The cave itself wasn't what we were expecting to be honest a little disapointing, in fact I was more interested by the hoards of monkeys checking us out. You can see their beedy little eyes spying for stuff to steal, when they realise you have nothing, you are no longer of interest to them and they scoot off after the next poor soul...One however did decide to smile at the camera for me and the newborns clinging to their mums was a really sweet site.
We caught the bus back to the hostel and packed our bags up ready for our trip to KL Sentral, trouble was just as we decided
to leave, the heavens opened and down came the rain again and so out came the ponchos and my bright orange waterproof backpack cover - I've never looked so cool!
We arrived at KL Sentral ready for our first overnight train experience - wish i could say never again but we have at least three more to come, sad times. The train arrived an hour late, we were cornered into one section of the station and it was so hot and so many people just crowding waiting for the gates to be opened. Finally we were allowed to board and to be fair me and Bon were both quite excited we found our bunks, you have your own little compartment with curtains and a pillow and we settled down to sleep. It was however impossible to sleep with the train rattling constantly. I managed about two hours broken sleep until i noticed the cockroaches...EVERYWHERE!!!! No sleep after that, I got up in the morning with the biggest bites on me i have ever had in my whole entire life. Anyway turns out Bon didnt sleep at all either, but it was ok we were due at our stop at
8am......wrong! Four hours later in the blistering heat we finally arrived at Arau where we got a taxi to Kuala Ferris - the ferry terminal to Langkawi. The crossing was smooth and we grabbed a taxi to the Zackry Guesthouse. I would recommend this place to anyone its a gem, double room, private bathroom and working aircon, the guys that run it are really helpful as well.
We spent the next day on the beach, just enjoying the sunshine and water along with the Jelly fish!! Today we took a trip to the Cable car which shoots you up the mountain at a 42 degree angle to a height of about 710M above sea level, the sights were amazing! Its been so hot here the sun has been out and its impossible to keep cool, but we're not complaining 😊
Tommorrow morning we set sail for Koh Lipe...Update soon x
