On Friday afternoon we ventured to Hong Kong for a weekend of sightseeing. It is such an amazing place and there are so many things to see and do that we have barely touched the surface of what HK has to offer.

Friday We got to our hostel, Inntide Guesthouse, in Causeway Bay around 4:30pm. Once we got checked in we headed to the Peak Tram. The ride up the tram is almost at a 45 degree angle and was built in the 1800s, quite amazing. Once to the top the view is spectacular as it was a pretty clear day. We took lots of photos then headed back down the hill on the tram to meet up with 4 of our friends. We met Kris and Kelly at 7:30 in Kowloon then ate dinner at Kraze Burger inside ISquare mall. Pete LOVES this place and we eat there every time we go to HK since it opened around the first of the year. After dinner we met Staci & Martin on the 7th floor of the mall to watch Alice in Wonderland in 3D Imax. It was a great movie but a little scary for little ones I think.

Around 11:30 we headed back to Causeway Bay to our hostel for the end of the night, as we had big plans on Saturday.

Saturday Got up, Pete & Martin stayed at the hostel watching UCSB vs. Ohio State in the NCAA tournament. Staci & I headed to McDonald's to get us all a quick breakfast. First time Pete and I have had McDonald's since our month long trip. Once Pete decided the game was over, meaning UCSB lost, we headed to the MTR and were on our way to Lantau Island. We got to the Ngong Ping 360 cable cars around 1pm and then we were on our 25 minute cable car ride to the top of the mountain to see the Big Buddha and To Lin Monastery. We ate a vegetarian lunch at the monastery and then hiked up the stairs to the Buddha. It was an amazing sight, it is 34meters tall, weighs 250 tons and is made of Bronze. On the cable car ride down it was stopped for about 5 minutes but we never found out why. Once at the bottom we hit up the outlet shops; Pete ended up buying a new pair

of Arnette sunglasses and I got a tshirt at Espirit. Can't forget we got 2 bottles of wine for the 4 of us for 88HKD=$11.33USD, not the best wine but it did the trick. We had a Mexican dinner in Kowloon at our favorite Mexican restaurant. Then drank the wine back at the hostel. Once we finished the wine Pete & Martin went to the 7-11 to buy 8 cans of beer for us to drink. It was the cheapest thing they could find and it tasted like it also. UGH!!!

Sunday We went back to McDonald's for breakfast and it was PACKED. Pete and I wanted to go to Stanley to check out the market and see a new part of town. We couldn't find a bus in the Causeway Bay area that went there so we took the MTR to Central and found bus 6 that went to Stanley. It was an awesome ride over the mountain to the back side of Hong Kong Island. We passed by Repulse Bay Beach which looked like a cool place to check out someday. We got to Stanly around noon and hit the markets first. Pete found a pair of

Teva sandals/shoes that he has been wanting which was good that he found them here. I looked at a few clothes but nothing caught my eye. It was neat to stroll through and then came to the Promenade along the water with lots of outdoor restaurants and little shops. Once done strolling around we took the Bus 6X back that went by Ocean Park and through the Aberdeen Tunnel. We wanted some lunch once we arrived back in Central but decided to eat at a deli inside ISquare in Kowloon. We took the Star Ferry across the water as it is cheaper than the MTR and it was a beautiful day. After lunch we got on the MTR to head back home.

We had great weather all weekend and enjoyed all the new sights that we got to visit. We LOVE Hong Kong and keep reminding ourselves how AWESOME our lives are that we can go to Hong Kong just for a weekend trip.

Next weekend we are going to Macau, another Special Administrative Region(SAR) in China. My translation is you have to go through immigration and they have their own currency. It is to be Vegas but

bigger. Pete will celebrate his 30th birthday there with many of our friends.

Until then we love to hear from everyone back home who is reading this and keeps up on our lives but we don't hear about your life.

Sounds like a great city to visit. Next time you go, photograph some of the street level views of the large skyscrapers. I wondered if the public spaces around the buildings are as interesting as the structures themselves. Wish I could have been there. Dad
