Mt Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa at 5,687 mts, after Kilimandzaro in Tanzania (which is around 6,300 mts). Its spread across 440 sq kms and is part of a lush green area.

We drove from Nakuru early morning, I got the closest view of white rhinos on the way out and couple of lions.

The drive was scenic, its strange that less than 20km away from the drought hit Nakuru, the land was fertile and lush green.

We drove through coffee and tea plantations and Maize fields. The land we drove through is dominated by the Kikuyu tribe (the largest of 42 tribes in Kenya, account for 40% of the country's population). This tribe is the most entrepreneurial among Kenyan tribes, focusing on farming.

As we drove, I could begin to understand why 85% of Kenyans follow Christianity, I saw more schools and hospitals run by Missionaries than by the government.

The drive took us through the equator line, where we stopped. To prove that it is the equator, a local guy (for a fee of course) demonstrated a scientific experiment. An Italian scientist called Collilleous had discovered that when anything falls to the ground in the north of the equator, it turns clockwise while falling, in the south it turns anti-clockwise and on the equator line, it falls straight. The local guy demonstrated it to me with the help of a jug of water and a matchstick, cool stuff.

After the obligatry pictures on the equator line, we drove down to the Mt. Kenya lodge where I was staying. The lodge is at 2,195 mts height, there are no game drives here, but there is a waterhole near the lodge, which is visible from your balcony and you can watch animals all day as they come to have water. I did that.

This place is quiet, serene, allows you to think, clear your mind. I enjoyed it here a lot.
