Posadas Posadas Posadas

2nd graders singing carols
Christmas came early this year.

It always seems that when I am somewhere without snow or family, it doesn't truly feel like Christmas. Although still not the same, this year there was lots to get me in the Christmas spirit.

The Spanish teachers hosted events called "posadas" for each grade. This is where one class has a Mary and Joseph and that class comes "knocking at the inn door" (singing Carols) and the people inside say there is no room but eventually let them in. The kids then all sing carols and the parents serve a small snack. This is done for each grade level.

We also had the staff Christmas party. It started at 7:30pm and was held at the Marriott hotel. It was nice. The only bad part was that prizes were done before dinner so by the time everyone had cocktails, they welcomed us, and did the raffle, dinner wasn't served until 10pm. We were a little hungry! The food was great though. Little bit of dancing too!

We also had a Christmas Concert (whole school) and a Christmas assembly (elementary school); both of which my dance club performed in. They were fantastic! I was SO proud of them. We'd been rehearsing the piece since September so they were well prepared. I had random parents (and even students!) coming up to me, congratulating me on the performance. I even had one mother tell me that I brought her to tears, as her daughter hasn't danced for her since she was about 4 years old. Another told me I have built up her daughter's confidence through dance. So glad it was a success. I think it built a lot of excitement for next spring's musical.

Lastly, Santa brought me LOTS of pretty things. Well, my students did. I couldn't believe all of the things I got. These families have money! I got the regular chocolates, mugs, Christmas stuff that every teacher gets but then also things from journals, Lencan pottery coasters, wallets, purses, photo album, perfumes, and crazy jewellery: sterling silver even! Fuzzy socks filled with candies were kinda cool, and the lingerie bag was a little strange but totally grateful for it! lol.

Christmas came early but there's still a lot to look forward to. Walt and I leave for Costa Rica on Monday morning. Definitely looking forward to an awesome Christmas with him in a new country. Many adventures await. I'll write all about it as we go!

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope your holiday is filled with many blessings.
