Chiang Mai, Thursday December 17, 2010, Trekking Tour

We were picked up at our Hotel at about 9am, and it was an hour drive to our first stop, the elephant camp. Here we got to ride the elephants through the forest, and feed them at the end (see video). Our group was really cool. A couple of Americans, a Scottish dude, and couple’s from Turkey and Australia. We scored the biggest elephant, the male one. Once again it was quite the ride, but we’re already covered that. To get to the elephants, we had to cross over a bridge made out of bamboo. The sort of bridge you see in the movies (see video), it was a little scary.
After the ride, it was off to a village to see how native Thai’s live, and then it was off for a trek through the forest, towards the water fall. We marched for about 30 minutes. The waterfall was beautiful. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but it was still a nice piece of work (see video). A little smaller!! Some of us decided to go in for a dip, and the water was FREEZING!! It was very refreshing to say the least!
We then had lunch, which was YUMMY.
The raft ride was pretty cool. Four of us got one raft a driver/guide (a little Thai kid that couldn’t speak English). They made us all sit on the bamboo raft, so our bottoms got completely soaked. It lasted about 30 minutes.

We’ll be leaving Chiang Mai tonight, and it’s back to Bangkok for a couple of days. We’re meeting up with some of Mike’s friends, and we also have to get fitted for the suits that we bought. We’ll be flying back this time around. The train didn’t have any sleepers, so we decided to book a flight instead.

Ciao for now!!
