Bokeelia is at the northern end of Pine Island. It has a golf course, a few marinas, a few restaurants, an inn or two and many lovely homes. It is also very private. We always stop at Crossed Palms Art Gallery, and the owners let us use their deck across the road to take in scenic Port Charlotte Harbor. Dawn, a silk screen and jewelry artist, was on duty at the shop. She knows her local art scene and especially pointed out the work of Mel Meo. We actually met Mel later on at a most unusualy outdoor "lunch cart" restaurant and "fish house" with a porch nostalgic of a family camp in the '50's! The place was called Coast Connection. You can get there by boat or by car. We were told that Mel sometimes helps out in the "stand" frying fish. Can't vouch for her cooking; but she is one talented painter. The food from the "lunch cart," was amazing. Mullet fritters! Yumbo! There was soda and beer in the cooler "for a donation!" Sometimes this place has music with Scott playing the bongos. Ya gotta love it!

Dawn from Crossed Palms Art Gallery noticed that my wild dress "matched" some of the art and suggested this picture. Funny!

Mullet Fritters and Gumbo
We also bought some smoked mullet spread with a secret ingredient, carrots! Amazing flavor.

Looking Out the Cross Palms Gallery
They just keep their double French door open most of the time. This view, with a sea grape tree right outside the door and Port Charlotte Harbor beyond, is stunningly beautiful.

New Pier Near Bokeelia
We think this was build by the Calusa Heritage Center operated by the University of Florida. Great spot for watching sunsets, birds and fish jumping.
