Man I loved Georgetown....sleepy, colonial vibe, with amazing indian food. Had to really drag myslef away. Not really that much to do in the town except eat and chat, and watch the footy of course! Hooked up with a cool Welsh lass called Emma. We got the bus out to Malaysia's biggest buddhist temple, and blimey it was big, it even has its own train to take you to the upper section! Also took a trip out to Penang hill to check out the sunset and view. Well i missed to sunset but the view was quality with the whole of Georgetown lit up below and the view out over the ocean.

In Thailand now. The trip and border crossing was smooth, apart from a grilling by the Thai border guard who didnt seem happy with my 'er dunno where i'm going, just north' approach. Well some smiles later and we were best buds. He even laughed at how ive changed from my passport photo (the beard basically!). A chinese medicine man on the mini bus chatted to me too and gave me his business card exclaiming 'i am chinese medical consultant'.

After a night in Hat Yai I made the mistake of travelling to Phuket, and although Phuket Town is okay, the beaches are the biggest tourist travesty since benidorm! they are beautilful, but its wall to wall sun loungers as far as the eye can see, plump pink and tea coloured westerners, tacky western food outlets, and constant hassles to buy suits/dvd etc.....arrgghh, and this is the quietest beach! thank god i didnt go to patong. those of you who imagine thailand to be fat old men with thail girls, and sex shows, think patong. no ping pong for me!

Anyway i ran away back to phuket town and tomorrow I will head north. Have been told about a Elephant festival in Surin (Elephant Roundup) so I will head for that....but it may be Bangkok first - oh ye godz.
