Day 4 (Tuesday, September 22, 2009)
Tuesday was the day of my audition and entrance exams. Normally this would be to determine if I would be accepted to the school, but since I had worked with Radovan before, this was just a formality. It was pretty stress-free. This was the first and only time we ate inside (We loved being able to eat every meal outside in nice weather). It had rained through the night and the seats were wet outside. I realized that the hotel had been playing Mozart Horn Concerti over the speakers. Mozart’s 2nd Concerto was playing and I was about to play that at the audition. It was very low but how fitting! ☺ I met with Radovan at 9am to warm up and my audition was at 10am. It had to have been the grumpiest looking panel I have ever played for, except for Radovan of course. The other horn Professor, Hansjorg Angerer, was also on the panel. I don’t remember who the other two professors were. They all spoke German during my audition so I have no idea what they said. I guess it made it easier to ignore them and just play. I played well but I got pretty tired. I think I played too much with Radovan beforehand and I didn’t get much down time between that and the audition. I was still trying to get back into shape from my wisdom teeth surgery and I didn’t have much endurance yet. Once I was done playing they told me to wait outside for a few minutes. Radovan came out and congratulated me and told me to wait for him in his studio while he finished with auditions. I went upstairs and practiced for my piano exam while I waited for him. About 45 min. later he came upstairs and gave me a few comments on the audition. He showed me where the rest of my exams would be and then he had to run to the airport to catch a plane to Poland. He is a very busy man!

I had a couple of hours until my marathon of exams began for the day. My parents had been researching my different banking options so I met them down the street at the bank. We wanted to open an account but then found out I needed my official acceptance letter from the school in order to get a fee-free student account. This letter was really causing problems since we needed it for everything and I wouldn’t get for at least another week. Luckily, the banker was kind enough to let us open the account as long as I brought the letter once I had received it. Once we were done at the bank we went for lunch at Café Wernbach. My parents had been there before but this was my first time. This place became my parents’ favorite restaurant, especially my mom’s. She became friends with the waiter…haha! We returned many times after that. We enjoyed a nice lunch outside and then I had to head back to the Mozarteum.

I had exams from about 2pm-6pm. I had written and oral theory exams, written and oral German exams(this didn’t take very long since my German vocabulary consists of about 10 words), and a piano exam. The material was not difficult I just did not always understand what they wanted me to do due to the language barrier, especially in the oral theory exam. The proctor was very impatient and expected me to read his mind. Once I was done and my brain was fried, I met my parents at Wernbach again. While I was busy with exams they were running errands and picking up things for my room. So there we were for the 2nd time in a day, maybe the 4th time total so far. My mom and her friend. Haha! We love to tease her about him. She even got a picture with him! I was impressed that he even remembered what I had ordered for lunch.
