I made it to Tanzania!! Flew into Mt. Kilimanjaro airport last night under a full moon and starry skies. Arrived at the Outpost Lodge in Arusha an hour later, exhausted and dehydrated, unsure of my surroundings in the darkness all around me. Taken to my room, I didn't dare step outside to try to find water or food, for fear of the tigers outside my door....actually there were no tigers, just howling winds and avacado seeds falling onto my thatch roof and trees slamming into my windows...you can just imagine in my delirious state...I'm thinking it's got to be tigers! Needless to say, after crawling under my mosquito net and lying with my eyes wide open for hours, I slept very little before waking up at sunrise to peek out my door at the amazing beauty surrounding me. Lush green plants and bright beautiful flowers all around. I ate breakfast in the mambo cafe under the rising sun and just sat absorbing the scenery all around...not a tiger to be seen. Many other tourists around me, very friendly, most of them seeming to be heading out on safari. Not many speaking swahili, but I'm trying to practice mine with the staff as much as possible. I am waiting for my ride to pick me up and bring me the rest of the way (about a 4 hour drive) to the childrens' village. I'm anxious to see the rest of Tanzania in the daylight. And I'll try to take some pics!
Love you all!

Avacados and Tigers
Yay Amy! Glad to hear that you made it safely. It's amazing! I don't know where to begin. I only wish my eyes could see what you're seeing or to see you in the environment. I look forward to hearing more! Take care, be safe and keep the compass on you as much as possible. David

No Tigers in Africa
Yes, I'm aware that there are no tigers in Africa...but for some reason whenever I talk about animals here, tigers are on my mind...I think it's all the tiger face painting I've been practicing,...and all the talk about tiger attacks upon realizing that my insurance covers airlift evacuation in case of injury by animals. Anyway, until I see any other wildlife (so far only cows, goats, and chickens) I'll probably still be thinking tigers.
