Balboa Park
Adam whoopin it up In all, we spent about 4 days in San Diego. It was nice. We basically just hung out, and did nothing...which was everything! It felt good. One night Evan and I made burgers (hers a turkey burger) and corn on the cob. YUMMY. We watched the movie Northridge. Good movie! Its all about sexual harassment in the work place, and sexual discrimination. We were going to rent the movie "Waiting." I thought it was something I could relate to...you know, working in the restaurant business forever. I thought a comedy about the whole trauma would be good. The girls behind the counter said it was awful. OK. I'm glad we got Northridge...but I have since heard that 'Waiting' was HILARIOUS! The girls, I guess, have never worked in the food industry (to bad...it makes your skin thick).
Another day, we went to the Museum of Man. Evan had a half off pass so it was $3 a person. It was cool. The Museum is in Balboa Park, which is a short walk from Evans apartment. They had a Mummy exhibit. I saw my first mummy. Crazy stuff. CREEPY. After the museum, we went to Evan favorite frozen yogurt place in La
Mesa called the Golden Spoon. She had brought some home the other night, and I couldn't stop thinking about seconds. The Golden Spoon was even better the second time! And, on sale...so it all worked out.
It was hard leaving Evan, she's always such a delight, and I love getting to be girlie. But, San Diego isn't exactly RV friendly. Plus, it was time. Evan had to go back to work. We meant to leave Monday morning, but didn't leave until that night...I forgot my phone charger in the apartment. OOps. Leave it to me. She got home around 8:30 that night, and I quickly ran in, grabbed my charger and left. We headed back to Solana Beach. We thought we'd stay the night there on the side of the road. Adam had seen a great spot the last time we were there. When we got there, he was right...it was a great spot! High on a hill, over looking the Pacific. The view was breath taking! So was the banging on the door around midnight that woke us from our sleep. What a rude awakening by the local Sheriff's department. I guess the million dollar people who lived
Mile Square Park
The warning...next to the pond in the million dollar homes we were parked in front of, didn't want our company. We had to move on.
We ended up sleeping at a Chevron Station about 15 mins up the street and outside the Solana Beach city limits. We had permission from the attendant working. Thank you, and good night! Around 5:30am we are awoken again. This time, by an argument just outside the RV. It was a man and a women and it probably looked worse than it was. And I think ended, because Adam got up and went outside. The couple drove off. Well the guy drove off, she walked. Adam went over and talked to the attendant, and was told that the manager would be there soon and he's probably make us leave. We left before we were made to leave...plus I think we'd had enough excitement!
We spent the day in Fountain Valley. We had pulled off for gas and discovered a nice little park called Mile Square Park. The land was bought during WWII and used as landing fields. After the war sometime, they turned it into a park. Its was pretty neat. They said there were 2 fishing ponds,
Mile Square Park
The pond next to the warning....really, there was a good distance between the run off and the pond, but the story isn't as good! I only saw one. The one I saw was adjacent to a stream (more of a runoff area) that had a sign that said something about not touching the water because you'd grow a second head. I'm not sure I'd want to eat the fish from that pond! It was a very nice park though. There was a Stater Bros right around the corner, so really, our stop for gas came with so much more.
Stater Bros is the BEST supermarket I've ever been to. All the meat looks fresh, and clean in the display case. The veggies all are displayed beautifully. They have 2% milk half gallons 2/$4.29!! Its $4.50 at Harris Teeter in Charlotte! Anyway, I could have spent all day in there. But, I got what we needed (spending $34.00 and saving $15.00) and left.
From there we got stuck in L.A. traffic. Blah. And finally made it to Stoney Point park for some bouldering. Stoney Point is in Chatsworth. A little NW of L.A. The park is right off of Topanga Canyon Bl. There is no parking other than the side of the road, which is busy. Every passing car rocked the RV like
Stoney Point
Chatsworth, CA crazy. The boulders are sandstone and covered with washed out graffiti. Theres also a good amount of broken glass. BUT, its cool.
This is our 3rd day here. The first night we drove into town and hung out at a Barnes & Noble, where we were left a ticketed warning for taking up more than one parking spot. I guess, they don't like large vehicles shopping there. Fine, their loss! We drove to a small park named Lanark right up the street to stay the night. Last night, with permission we stayed the night at the Methodist church thats within walking distance to Stoney Point in exchange for some trash cleanup.
We met up with an old friend of mine, Isaac, last night. We had a GREAT night!! He picked us up and we drove into town for dinner. We found this FANTASTIC place called the Zen Buffet. THIS WAS THE BEST BUFFET I"VE EVER eaten at!!!! They had EVERYTHING and all of it was amazing!!! We pigged out. Adam and I each had 3 plates FULL, plus dessert with no waste. I thought I was going to burst, but it was so good. They had all kinds
of sushi, and meats, and rices, and lo meins. OOOOOOh boy! Isaac treated, which was SOOO nice!! And what a great place! We managed to roll ourselves out and came back to the RV. We chatted for awhile, shared stories. It was LOTS of fun!!! It was the kind of night you didn't want to end...but all good things must...Isaac went home and the two of us passed out. I slept hard too! Thanks to Yummy Zen Buffet and Isaac!!
We'll stay here one more night and spend some of the day bouldering tomorrow before heading to our next spot. Where that is...i do not know. We'll seeeeeeeeeeeeee.
