Hi all
We are now back at Exmouth after 6 nights at Cape Range National Park. We got up early and were at the Ranger Station for the National Park 40kms away from Exmouth around the peninsula before 7am, but still we were No 18 in the queue for a campsite!! We waited until 8am, when it opened (9 more had turned up by then), and were very lucky to be offered the last spot in the overflow campsite for the first night. We could then transfer to a better spot the next day. We got a lovely spot at Osprey Bay, a stone's throw away rom a lovely beach, with tame kangaroos. The camp hosts had a Happy hour BYO each evening 5pm - 6.30pm, so most of the campers came. We walked the beaches most mornings before it got too hot, and snorkelled at Osprey, Sandy Bay nearby (clear with lovely fish), the Oyster stack(lovely fish, some big and good coral), and Lakeside Bay and Turquoise Bay (drift snorkelled down the coral reefs with the current - both lovely coral and fish). We drove to Yardie Creek one day and walked into the gorge, after helping some tourists stuck in the soft sand in a hired 4WD and not a clue what to do.
We reluctantly left yesterday, but the wind had got up the last few nights, and the one tide a day on our last day was low most of the day (tides are weird here, usually 2 a day, range varies too, but has been about 1 - 2 meters).
We leave Exmouth tomorrow for 3 nights at Coral Bay, which is at the southern end of the Ningaloo Reef,couldn't get into the camping ground we had been recommended, it's booked out, but we managed to get another one nearby, then on to Carnarvon.

catch up
Great Photos and the beaches look fabulous. The homemade bread looked pretty good too!!! Up at Oak River for the weekend. Stu stayed home yesterday (never happened before) with a very sore back so just rested and seems to be ok this morning. Louises' youngest Ben turns one year old next weekend so we are having the party (I think I am doing the food) with the rellies at Oak River Drive. They are not staying the night so we can get our jobs done on Sunday. Stu is off to Bangkok the following Saturday and back on the following Thursday. That takes up to the weekend of the 10th October so will probably stay in Auckland as he always has mail etc. to catch up on. Louise has her birthday on 14th October and so it begins as we have birthdays for the next five months. Flo is not too well, she is still hanging in there but the kidneys are going so is on piddle pills, heart pills and kidney powder but it is just a matter of how long she can last really. It will be great to see you again in November and no doubt will catch up then. Had a e-mail from Sue Crump and she is back in NZ in October with Mel, who is staying only a fortnight, but she didn't say how long she was staying in NZ or if she was back permanently. We are going to Chris McPhee's 60th birthday on 10th October and met their grandson Fergus the other week. He is very cute and they are dotty over him as you would expect. regards Penny and Stu
