The Philippines, being a tropical country, has a warm weather reaching up to 35 degrees centigrade during summer. Still, there is one place which is relatively cooler by 9 degrees from the lowlands - Baguio City. With this, this highland lives up to its title as the Summer Capital of the Philippines.

Approximately 250km north of Manila, just a 4-hr drive away, one can experience the cool climate, taste the sweet strawberries, and be captivated with the marvelous sceneries in the highlands. Various transport companies serve the Manila-Baguio route, so its accessibility is also one of the many pluses why tourists flock to Baguio. Local transportation are also available - one can hire a taxi to go around the city.

Places to Visit:
Camp John Hay - Former recreation area of the US Military. This camp is one of country’s premiere golfing destinations.

Mines View Park - The park used to be a mine of gold, silver, and ore. You can have a great view of the highland from the deck. There are also a lot of shops where one can buy Baguio products such as the peanut brittle, and other fruit preserves.

Burnham Park - The

city’s premiere park where one can relax and enjoy the day by biking, skating, boating in the man-made lagoon, having a picnic, or just strolling around the pavement filled with colorful flowers.

Wright Park - A place where one can enjoy horse-back riding and admire the magnificent stretch of pine trees.

The Mansion - This serves as the working office of the President of the Philippines in the City.

Churches - Baguio is an ideal place for spiritual retreats. Some of its religious shrines are the Lourdes Grotto, Baguio Cathedral, St Joseph Church, and the Bell Temple

Kennon Road - The zigzag road that has the famous landmark of Baguio - the Lion’s Head.

Strawberry Farm - Located in La Trinidad, Benguet, about 30mins away from the city, this is the place where you can buy strawberries and other vegetables. You may also want to harvest the strawberries from the huge field by yourselves. There are also a lot of beautiful flowers where baguio is also known for, because of the Penagbenga (flower festival) held during the month of February.

are a lot of gimmick places to go to in the City. The Session Road has a wide array of bars and dining places.

SM Baguio - Yes! The SM City of Pines should not be missed in the city, because of its unique architecture. You can also have a view of the whole city in the mall’s loft.

Warnings:
Beware of pick-pockets especially in Burnham Park. I almost lost my clutch bag when a pickpocket tried to snatch it from me. Aww, what a horrible experience.
