Fiolstræde Architecture Activity

Update: I met with my French tutor for the first time today. Total International Language whiplash. I thought of all the numbers in Danish. All the verbs in Spanish. C'est la vie. I have some intense French catch up to do. However, I'm going to love the fact that I get one-on-one instruction once a week...way more helpful and personalized than simply taking a French course.

Today's blog will be an activity in discerning Neoclassical Architecture in Medieval Copenhagen. My Copenhagen: History and Current Issues course had an assignment where we had to walk Fiolstræde and find the three buildings that did NOT burn down in 1795 and 1807 (everything burned several times in Copenhagen. It took them three torched courthouses before they decided stone didn't burn.)

I've uploaded pictures of the Fiolstræde buildings and it is your task to find three buildings that don't look like the others.

I think they are A, D and L. of course, i'm sure I'm wrong. But I noticed that the windows are different than the windows in the other buildings.

do these buildings have corner stones like in u.s.? i would have guessed smaller windows would be older buildings. any correlation? all those pictured seem to have pretty big windows. watching tv, says french fries were invented in french speaking section of belgium. that is all the french i know! love,dianne
