Salisbury Cathedral in South West England (near Stonehenge)

Holy House of God! We felt a touch blasphemous sneaking in for the price of one… It was impressive! Supposedly the granite columns holding up the tower are supposed to be the sagging under its great weight… Scary... Lots of really old graves in the floor and the foundation is only 4 ft deep (they showed us, it’s true)!

Warwick

My Grandma grew up here and my mum was born just outside in Leamington Spa so we paid a visit. Warwick Castle is famous, however, it seems to have been taken over by medieval impersonators so we opted to just break into a local garden (by accident, I swear). We also saw the free Military museum with its very enthusiastic curator; his pride and joy was the autographed picture of Elizabeth II, which we photographed, of course.

Oxford

We didn’t see Harry Potter but we did see some young men in tweed jackets carrying a bottle of champagne. That’s how you celebrate the end of your exams there and I like it. I almost followed them…

Peak District, Sheffield, Mid-West England

We camped here and decided to act really English and take a walk along one of the numerous ‘public footpaths’ that cross the countryside. We got lost instantly. We ended up dodging cow patties and forging a decent stream and climbing a very muddy hill, all in good fun. Then we visited my mum’s cousin, David, in Cheshire, and he showed us were my grandpa grew up. We also his twin sister, Vanessa and her husband, Antonie, on their dairy farm in Prestbury. We took a walk in wellies around the farm and had two kinds of pie for dessert (yum!). It was all very pleasant!

Stonehenge & Avebury Stones

Stonehenge… overpriced and just great from outside the fence. You feel cool, like the rebel and you are staring at all the duped tourists. Avebury is way better for the experience as you can (and we did) drive into the middle of the circle and have a beer or three. We also fondled the rocks; well Shane did at least; pretty neat for inanimate objects. The farmers in the area have to mow around the rocks in their fields (it’s funny).

Avebury
Oh dumb me, I should have give you my friend Clive's address. He lives in Wiltshire near Avebury and would have taken you out for a beer as he owes me BIG time. Isn't Stonehenge funny, always photographed in lovely green fields. Never of the roads that run past it.
