Shark's Cove
Our original 10 intinerary had the week-ends free of any activities but loafing and exploring, and week-days full of activities such as kayaking, golfing, jet skiing, surfing and such. Our day today found us on the beach at Shark's Cove at the North Shore and Malaekahana State Recreation area, both just a hop-skip-jump from our central Punaluu residence.

Naturally I've included the mandatory pic or two of the kids enjoying the trip (waves to grandparents), and today they really enjoyed the tide pools at Shark's Cove after a good 2 hours of snorkeling the fish-fill cove. The population of the fish was DOUBLE that of Hanauma Bay that we visited in February, but naturally we left the water-proof camera at the condo!

We arrived at 9:07am, and got the last parking spot along the rock wall to the cove, and then we ended up with a "Da Kine" spot for our chairs and picnic lunch overlooking the cove about half way down the the trail, nestled in volcanic rock. We spent 3 hours of snorkeling, playing in the tide pools just west, eating our cooler-laiden lunch on the rocks of Shark's Cove.

After diving some 15 feet to the bottom of the cove, just outside of the barrier rock, I was convinced I needed something better than US Diver equipment, and we paid a visit to Surf and Sea in Haleiwa. The staff was simply outstanding in assisting me in picking the right mask that fit my Swedish face, then off to Malaekahana State Recreation area to explore it and Goat Island.

Goat Island was unaccessible today as the tide was high and the sea rough, but the beauty was worth the stop. Don't bother to snorkel here, nothing but puffer fish danced in face. There is a beautiful sand point beach area where you can spend the afternoon dreaming of living here (until you wake up and realize that you can't afford it!)...and plenty of opportunities with the camera. The bottom is not sandy, except in spots, so I would avoid body boarding here.

We ended the day...where else! Back at our own beach in front of Pat's at Punaluu!

Monday we begin the "activities" we planned. I'm off to cook brats at the BBQ and then bed to dream about tomorrow!
Enjoy!
