The train stations smelled like waffles and chocolate - oh my!! I knew this was very bad and that we would enjoy every minute of the wonderful delicacies that Belgium had to offer. We were only going to be there for a day and a half so we had a lot of eating to do before moving on to Switzerland. The chocolate, the waffles and whipped cream, the french fries with mayonnaise - it was going to be a diet disaster. So much for eating healthy.
We walked through Brussels and tried to visit all the major sights. So, this took us to the Grand Palace, the city gardens, and the old market place called the Grand Place. Along the way we passed numerous chocolate shops and waffle stands. Dinner that night was a salad and a chocolate sundae waffle.
The next morning we took the train to Bruge and truly enjoyed wandering this very beautiful medieval city. It is just charming! We were fortunate to be there on market day and saw beautiful flowers and produce. The 366 stairs to the top of the Clock Tower was well worth the climb. There were some beautiful views of the
canals and the city. The walk through the Begijnhof, a medieval community for single women and widows, was interesting. In the Church of Our Lady, we saw the one Michelangelo sculpture that is outside Rome. It is called "The Madonna and Child". Lunch this day was a waffle with fruit and whipped cream. Trying to improve the nutritional value. Of course, that was followed by chocolate and french fries with mayonnaise.
It was a good thing that we didn't stay long with the junk food that we managed to consume. But, oh what fun we had!!!

Not much of a setback
I think climbing the steps to the clocktower and back down helped you out a little on that disaster. I am sure that was worth about 3 sundaes don't you think? Glad you are having a great time. Jane
