The train stations smelled like waffles and chocolate - oh my!! I knew this was very bad and that we would enjoy every minute of the wonderful delicacies that Belgium had to offer. We were only going to be there for a day and a half so we had a lot of eating to do before moving on to Switzerland. The chocolate, the waffles and whipped cream, the french fries with mayonnaise - it was going to be a diet disaster. So much for eating healthy.

We walked through Brussels and tried to visit all the major sights. So, this took us to the Grand Palace, the city gardens, and the old market place called the Grand Place. Along the way we passed numerous chocolate shops and waffle stands. Dinner that night was a salad and a chocolate sundae waffle.

The next morning we took the train to Bruge and truly enjoyed wandering this very beautiful medieval city. It is just charming! We were fortunate to be there on market day and saw beautiful flowers and produce. The 366 stairs to the top of the Clock Tower was well worth the climb. There were some beautiful views of the canals and the city. The walk through the Begijnhof, a medieval community for single women and widows, was interesting. In the Church of Our Lady, we saw the one Michelangelo sculpture that is outside Rome. It is called "The Madonna and Child". Lunch this day was a waffle with fruit and whipped cream. Trying to improve the nutritional value. Of course, that was followed by chocolate and french fries with mayonnaise.

It was a good thing that we didn't stay long with the junk food that we managed to consume. But, oh what fun we had!!!

Not much of a setback
I think climbing the steps to the clocktower and back down helped you out a little on that disaster. I am sure that was worth about 3 sundaes don't you think? Glad you are having a great time. Jane

Beutiful Weather in Europe
Hey Big Sis and Bro-in-Law. Nice to see that you guys had the same nice weather that I had in Leipzig. I just got back from parts unmentionable in the Sand Pit. Got to spend the 4th of July watching some REALLY big rockets red glare then back to our crew base in Leipzig. Got home via Dallas at noon today. Luv to you both, Jim and Jan

Dear RPM, I can't believe you were eating french fries with mayonnaise. I never tried it but maybe the next time I have fries I will. The chocolate looked wonderful and I'm sure the climb up the clock tower burned off at least one bite. We're glad you are having good weather and lots of fun. Jim says thanks for the birthday post card. He finally catches up to me in years tomorrow. Love, Nancy
