It is my last day in Spain and I am sad to say goodbye. I guess I also need to say goodbye to Senor Jackson, or as the front page of the newspaper here said yesterday, "Adios a el rey de pop!" (Goodbye to the King of Pop!). I'm sitting in La Plaza de la Catedral where, interestingly, I am getting free wireless internet. Looking around there are tons of cafes and people sitting out enjoying a cafe con leche or just a little afternoon snack. Yesterday I lived like a true Spaniard. I walked around all morning and then from 2pm-6pm I took a siesta. I basically had no choice because the whole town of Cadiz shuts down between those hours and there is nothing to do but go to the beach. Then around 7pm I sat down and had some tapas. I ordered tortillas de camarones and vino blanco. The tortillas were basically fried little eggy things with full shrimp inside...antennas and eyeballs and all! The girls I was with blindly ordered this fried squid dish. It wasn't like calamari, but more like little octopus...tentacles, eyeballs, the little round head, the works..and all fried up. It was actually pretty tasty. They didn't like it, so I ended up eating most of it haha, of course. Then we went to dinner and I had sangria and paella. The paella is a traditional Spanish dish with rice and seafood, but mine had sausage and cheese...it was so delicious. I got back to my room around 10 and then at 11 headed out again. We sat down at a little outdoor cafe/bar and had some drinks until 2am and then went to a club around 3am and danced. Interestingly, this was all normal timing here!! The club we were dancing at didn't even getting started until 3 and there were people of all ages...not just young people. It was great!
Anyway, Spain has been amazing and I'll probably come back another time and visit Barcelona or Sevilla. We leave for Italy tonight! Can't wait 😊
Adios!
