Day 19 (Saturday 09-May-09, JRJ)

We awoke about 6:45 to a beautiful sunrise over the river. Looking out at the river from our bed through our mosquito net was bliss, we lay on top of the duvet for a while just soaking in the surroundings until we had to get up for a cooked brekkie at 9am, made sandwiches for lunch and then went to chill back at our tree house for an hour before departure at 10:45.

Had lunch on the road and arrived at a village at about 3pm where we were going to leave Benji for 3 days while we went on our adventure into the Okavango Delta! Nat was tearful that she wouldn't be able to speak to her mum on her birthday. A 4x4 truck was supposed to pick us up to take us to Guma Lagoon Camp just after 3, however it didn't turn up until 3:45 and then once we loaded all our supplies and bags onto the truck, the ancient vehicle wouldn't start. It took over an hour for them to fix the truck whilst everyone had to scramble for shade in the village. Whilst waiting, this local woman, who was clearly pissed or high, kept going around laughing and shaking hands with everyone.

We finally got on the road after 5 and had a very bumpy drive through swamps and rivers until we got to the camp just in time for the moonrise over the lagoon at 6. Put up our tents, had T-bone steaks for dinner and hit the sack at 9.
