The Temple of ApolloThe Temple of ApolloThe Temple of Apollo

This are the impressive ruins of the Temple of the God. It is in the centre of a big archaeological site in Delphi.
On 28 April, Olympic Airways took us from Istanbul to Athens. It was a smooth flight with plenty of food.
On arrival our friend Panos was there to welcome us in his city. It was nice to see him.
He helped us finding our way to the Hertz counter and then the parking. We will spend the W-E with him but for now left for Delphi.
Delphi is literally hanging on the slopes of the mount Parnassos. We were first lost in the small streets but ended up finding our way to Hotel Varonos. We got a very warm welcome from Yannis at reception. From our room we had an amazing view on the gulf of Corinth.

The next day we went hiking along a steep path in search of Korikio Antro, a sacred mountain shrine for Pan and Dionysos.
It was an amazing hike, very steep but the gods were not with us. After a bout 2 hours of exhausting walk with fantastic views on the golf of Corinth and on Mount Parnassos, we understood we would never find that shrine and ended up finding our way back to Delphi.
The archaeological site with the temple of Apollo and Athena is of course great, but too well known to be commented here. Just one point though, there was a group from Slovenia visiting the site, they were very joyful and had plenty of fun. When they arrived at the old theatre, about ten of them went “on stage” in this antique open air theatre and improvised a choir and started singing. It was divine, unbelievably beautiful and we could experience first hand the acoustic qualities of the theatre.

We left Delphi on 30 April for Kalampaka and visit the Meteora monasteries.
