LeavingLeavingLeaving

One of our traditional last minute shots before leaving a town. This time Byron Bay.
Leaving Byron Bay after just one day was tough, but our next location was one that boasted some pretty high expectations with just its name… Surfers Paradise! Our bus ride was fairly short this time, and when we arrived we were greeted by Graham and Lorna! You see, before leaving Canada, it was suggested by our friends the Walters that we should give their friends in Australia a ring. This was a great offer, but Hillary and I didn’t want to bother anyone, especially people we had never met before. But we were assured that this would not be the case. If anything, we couldn’t have been further from the truth. Graham and Lorna are two of the most kind and generous people we had ever met! They welcomed us into their lives and we couldn’t have been more grateful.

So we finally met them in Surfers Paradise! They picked us up and gave us a little tour of the area. We drove through the city and out to the outer sections to take a few pictures. We would have stayed with them our first night in, but we could not get out of our first night at the YHA

I'm telling you, I just love the scenery.
hostel, so that meant heading back to Surfers for one night. But Graham and Lorna drove us over, so who could complain? Lol

That night we relaxed, and made sure to use the free internet at the McDonalds right next door. The mall was especially cool too, mostly because it was part open air and part closed building. This is something we just don’t have in Canada. Anything that’s open to the elements usually becomes useless in the winter, so most buildings don’t waste the space. But in a country where even winter is pretty warm, it makes sense. I’m definitely jealous. Anyways, we got a good night’s rest that night, and kept our things packed for the next day.

Remember, always swim between the red and yellow flags! That is, if you want to be saved by the lifeguard on duty.
