March 10th

Arrived late in Ubud - greeted enthusiastically by child-staff- they were all about 16years old! Not a geat night's sleep due to loud skittering in the roof whch sounded like a komodo dragon doing an aerobics sesssion. Bit of a culture shock having been in Oz, NZ and the US since July!!
March 11th
Waked inot Ubud about 3k- really hot! Went ino Monkey Jungle- I didn't like it at all as the monkeys were jumping on people even it they had no food- so I made a swft exit - Mike stayed in longer and came out unscathed! Really amazing food - had really good meal in evening, easy for vegetarians here.

March 12th
Had my haircut for 2 quid- they didn't have a clue really but it's not too bad! Went to wrong place to meet Mike so I sent a taxi driver to go and find him at the other possible meeting place and bring him to me - amusement all round- the taxi driver was very nice and he had found Mike walking on the street- you can imagine how confusing it was for Mike. How does that taxi driver know my name?

March 13th
Did downhill cycling tour- really good trip as we went into a typical house, met workers in the ricefields and saw 500 yr old banyan tree. Very hot even though 25k downhill. Tour guide really good at English. ad breakfast overlooking lake and volcanoes. Lunch was the most amazing food - nice people on trip as well. Mike went out with them in evening- I had really bad migraien - from the sun I think!

March 14th
Got a few bits and piece sorted/ shopping- actually met other guests in our hotel from Oz - had chat with them in the pool- it was such a strange place- we were the only people there for a bit. Mike went for walk- too hot for me!
March 15th
Did cookery course in morning- went to market as psrt of it- very dirty- uuugghh! Cookery part was great - got an apron and a recipe book and ate all the food we cooked!

March 16th
Got taxi to Amed- very small place on the east coast. Hotel very basic but bed comfy and good aircon- oly cost US$65 for 4 nights after a haggle. Met karin from Germany when we went for lunch and got on realy well with her- she was staying in same hotel as us and had been to amed lots of times. We stayed 4 nights as it was so quie after Ubud which we found very noisy and hot. Hired snorkelling equipment and went in that afternoon- really good just off beach. For the next 3 days we did very little- went snorkelling- went to shipwreck a few k down the road- really good fish. We ate in same restaurant every nght practically - so cheap and tasty.

March 20th
Taxi to Sanur for 4 nights- went to hotel recommended in LP- gorgeous- fantstic gardens with pool. Very quiet even though it's a populr resort. Unfortunately met scottish guest who was a world authority on SE Asia and started most sentences with 'I tell ya what....' over the next few days we explored about a bit- had dinner at a really good restaurant whose owner had lived in japan for 6 years and who had 3 terrierxdaschund dogs- they were so funny!! We ended up gong there for most meals.

On monday 23rd we went into Denpasar- very underwhelming - Mike did get his hair cut for 50p though!!
It looks ok as well!

The next day we got taxi to Tajung benoa which was only about 40 mins drive, we had booked big hotel for over Balinese New Year as on that day you can't go out of your hotel at all- not even to the beach.

it was a very nice hotel - large and full of Dutch/Aussies on package tours.

Balinese New Year
Why can't you go out of your hotel on that day? Sounds like you are continuing to have a cracking time. I am jealous.
