Day 57

As you can imagine it is very hard work travelling around the world so Aunty Rose and Uncle Tony have booked us a holiday! The four of us are off to Margaret River for a few days.

After rush hour we set off on the 3 hour journey south to Margaret River. We stopped at Busselton for lunch and went for a walk on Busselton Jetty to the underwater observatory. Busselton is a popular holiday resort with a famous 2km long jetty, the longest wooden structure the Southern Hemisphere and second in the world (Southend has the longest).

The 8 meter down observatory allowed us to view the coral and fish that live in the safe shelter of the jetty. We had a guided tour down to the ocean floor, we saw large sholes of yellow fin and Australian herring.

Bushland cottages are located just outside of the small holiday town of Margaret river and in the heart of the south west wine region. 8 rural cottages sit in the natural bushland home to a variety of wild birds and animals like kangaroos and possums.

We ate out tonight at GoodFellas Cafe and all enjoyed the home made pizzas and great deserts, it was yummy.

Day 58

Our first sight this morning was of Canal Rocks where we watched the swell and waves of the Indian Ocean crash against the rocks. We called for a coffee north of here on the coast at Bunker Bay. The beaches here are fabulous and very popular with surfers although the ocean was too calm today. Oli and Tony tried to climb the cliffs but there had recently been a bush fire so the path was closed.

Before lunch we did some wine tasting at Wise winery and then had our picnic at Swings and Roundabouts winery just down the road. Caves Road is littered with wineries and you see fields of vines for miles and miles. Margaret River is renowned for its fine wines and has over 30 vineyards, many with restaurants and facilities for their visitors.

As Oli prefers beer the next stop was Bootleg Brewery where he enjoyed a tasting tray of 7 different beers that they produce here. After he purchased his favourites we visited Margaret River Chocolate Company to do some chocolate tasting (Laura's favourite past time!). Only to be disappointed as they were building a new cafe, so we continued to Vasse Felix winery which was the first vineyard to open in the area about 35 years ago.

Last stop was the venison farm shop for some sausages and Margaret River to buy food for our bbq. Before dusk we went on a kangaroo hunt in the bushland surrounding the cottage. Sure enough we saw families of kangaroos in the nearby fields and in the bush. We sat and watched a film in front of a lovely warm fire (it is a bit cooler down south!) and waited for the possums to arrive for some photo opportunities before going to bed.
