IES offered a sponsored Field Trip on Saturday to Tivoli. So around twenty people from IES met at the bus station early in the morning to depart to Tivoli, a town outside of Rome that contains the Villa Adriana. The villa was built by the Emperor Hadrian and is an elegant park that is over three miles big. The trip was alot of fun since we were with a big group. There was some confusion in the beginning because we had two Italian students guiding us, and the road was closed that usually leads to Tivoli, so we did some bus hopping. The villa was beautiful and had huge baths, a theater, a courtyard among other things.

In between the trip to the two villas, we had a break for lunch. Alfred noticed that there was this delicious looking orange drink with slices of blood oranges in it. He really wanted it, so after struggling with the woman at the cafe, we finally ordered it. It ended up being an apertivo however, which meant that it was an alcoholic drink, so Al was not happy with it, it was really bitter. So that was interesting.

The second place, Villa D'Este, was my favorite because it had over 500 fountains. When we first got there, we rushed to see this one fountain because we heard that the organ plays and the fountains move with the water. However, that was really disappointing because it only ended up being a song playing from an organ and nothing else happened. O well. But the fountains were beautiful, and there were many different shapes, from dragons to boats to people. The place was so nice, and it was a nice change to be outside where there was alot of grass, and there was also a cool overlook of Rome, and St. Peter's Basilica could be seen really far away in the distance. It was a really great day trip.
