Originally today I was going to go to Siena but decided to postpone since if I book two weeks in advance, it's alot cheaper. So instead I went on a day trip to Ostia Antica, which is only a thirty minute train ride outside of Rome. Ostia was a town that was overtaken by Rome and used as a military base. When Rome became more of a major power, its use changed to more of a commercial area. The town was abandon however when the path of the Tiber changed, and it then became covered in mud. All of the ruins I have pictures of were recently uncovered in an excavation and was well preserved due to the mud. Ostia is similar to Pompeii but it is bigger. We walked around for a few hours and saw high density housing, a theater, the forum and markets next to the forum. It took around three hours to walk around the whole area. We then went to walk around the town, but it was quaint and there was not much to see, so we took the train back.
