Today, we went to the Development and Education Program for Daughters and Communities Center, which houses and teaches k-6 to girls in the community to educate them and keep them out of the sex trafficking business. They also work with young boys, and have a 24/7 hotline and a radio station. They also work with AIDS awareness and prevention. The director explained to us the cycle of how the children get pulled into the sex industry, and it was very eye opening, and very sad. After that, we went to the Hall of Opium, which is a museum set up by the Princess Mother to educate people on the beginnings of opium, the opium trade, and the dangers of addiction. The museum was amazing - easily one of the top 5 best museums I have ever been to. It was a little graphic it some parts, but it really helped put the point across. We then went to the golden triangle, which is where the Mekong River splits between Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar (also known as Burma). This is where the drug trade took place in Northern Thailand, when they became the main producers of Opium over India during the Second World War. We took a boat over to Laos, and I got another stamp in my passport! After that, we went to the northern most point of Thailand, where it meets the Myanmar border, but we couldn't cross it for political reasons. It was an awesome day!
