Looked round town today. Had an English brekky to start the day off but had Laos tea (still wanted to be a bit authentic). Looked round the palace and some temples today. Not as impressive as some of the ones in Thailand but still beautiful and rather fitting to the somewhat quaintness of the town.

We walked up the 300 steps to the temple in the centre of the town and it was a fantastic view of the whole town. Well worth the effort! While up there a Laos girl passed us and put her arm next to mine to compare my pale skin to hers, then she walked off giggling to her mate. I'm not quite sure if that makes me a victim of some kind of racial abuse?!?!

Anyway, saw Tim and Debs from the slowboat and invited them to dinner with us. On the way Adam saw Chloe, the girl he liked from Chaing Mai and agreed to meet her at a karaoke bar after dinner. He wanted the company so I went with. Got a tuk-tuk to the middle of nowhere and a right dive of a club. After looking in to see she wasn't there and every Laos person was staring at us, we left to walk down to the next 'club'. Was a strange place with the music so loud you couldn't hear your mate shouting in your earhole!

We left after a beer and after walking for an hour for the place, we gave up and walked home. We thought we found the same lit tree near the market but it wasn't so we walked around for a bit longer until we saw the temple on the 300 step hill we visited earlier which was all lit up. We followed it home like our star of bethlehem. Made it back just a few minutes after curfew thankfully, we had passed a few coppers/soldiers with rifles along the way! All in all a shambles of a night!

Several things: make sure you have a Beerlao, as well as the strong lao lao. The boat ride up to the caves is a great experience, along with the open air markets downtown.
