The Alexander the Great Hotel
Monday, 19th January, 2009.

The Hotel is a large Seafront resort hotel with lots of facilities.

Pat took advantage of the indoor swimming pool and sauna. I had a sleep.

We left the room sometime after six and went exploring the Hotel, we found the bar.

Pat celebrated our arrival in Cyprus with a couple of glasses of sparkling wine and I had a coke light and a coffee. A number of British people in the bar.

We found our way round the rest of the Hotel and then ventured out into local territory.

Straight across from the Hotel are several property places, showing places for sale or rent. So we may simply wander over in the morning to start our search.

We walked towards the Tourist area, the evening was mild, and a pleasure to be able to walk about.

There are bars and restaurants, cafes and coffee houses. A lot of them are open, and most of them only have a few people in, but are being frequented.

We were looking for a Pattisserie or similar for something light or sweet, but didn't find anything that took our fancy, so

we stopped at a KFC and had a meal.

Then back to the hotel and up to the room about eight thirty.

It was not long before both of us were asleep.

Tuesday, 20th January, 2009.

Pat went off for a swim just after eight.

We went and had some breakfast when she returned and left the Hotel about ten thirty.

Straight across from the Hotel is an esplanade of shops. We went to the first open Estate Agent and talked to a lady, called Heather. She took our details and requirements and said she would call us later today or tomorrow.

Next Eatate Agent along and a guy called Andreas and he took our details and requirements and said he would call us.

A short walk along and we went in to another one and met Tom. He knew somebody who might be able to help us and after having a long chat with Tom, arranged to meet John outside the Hotel at 1130.

At about 1145 John turned up and took us to three different places around the area. Two of the properties are available straight away.

We were dropped back at the Hotel and decided it was time for coffee, so picked up some at a little shop just opposite the Hotel.

Then we saw another Estate Agent that was open and met Rachael. She again took our details and requirements, showed us some available places and we made an arrangement to meet her at three o'clock, to visit some properties.

Everybody we have spoken to has been very helpful and it doesn't look like we should have a problem finding somewhere.

We then took a walk along the front to kill some time, lots of people here, enjoying the winter sun.

No idea what the temperature is, but we are in T-Shirts and trousers. The tourists are out in their shorts.

We stopped for a coffee at a Starbucks, so Pat was happy. Then popped back to the Hotel to freshen up.

At three o'clock we went to the Estate Agent's across the road and Rachael took us to three different locations. The first in Konia, second in Peygia and third in Emba.

We got back at quarter to five, and popped briefly to the room and straight out to get something to eat.

We walked to the Port area and ended up in The Kastro restaurant. We ordered a meat meze, and all sorts of meats things came along. Total €56.00.

Then a walk back to the Hotel, it was a little cool walking back. At the hotel we had some coffee and did a little internet surfing.

Then up to the room for another early night as we are still caching up from our weekend journeying.

Without going into the details yet, as we have not yet confirmed anything with the Estate Agent, we feel we have found somewhere that we could spend some time here on Cyprus, I will hopefully go into more details shortly.

Wednesday, 21st January, 2009.

Pat went down for a swim just after eight o'clock. When she returned we went down to breakfast.

Back up to the room and out about ten.

We went straight over to see Rachael at the Estate Agents. We had a couple of questions about the property, she said she would find things out straight away and could we give her half an hour.

So, we went for a short stroll and half an hour later went back.

Our questions were answered satisfactorily and we said that we would like to rent the property at Konia.

We signed a contract for six months and paid our rent and deposit.

We are now living in Cyprus.

Rachael needed to check through the inventory of the apartment with us and we decided to meet her out at the property.

We asked her for directions, as we have no knowledge of the area, and she had driven us there. Then off, we found the property, although we found a different way than we had gone yesterday, we did find it.

Pat went through the inventory and I nosed around the place.

The place is going to be cleaned this afternoon, so we went back to the Hotel.

Then, we headed off to the Alpha Bank to open an account.

We walked in and were directed into the Manager's office. After showing our passports and filling in a number of forms. We left with a Bank Account.

We walked towards the tourist area, looking for a cup of coffee and ended up in Debenham's.

Then a stroll back along to the Hotel, we sat in the bar and had a drink, while, surfing the internet for flights.

Then back to the room.

As of today, we have a place to live in Cyprus.
