Over the course of our trip we have heard Madagascar's top ten pop music dance hits about 30 times each- usually the songs are threatening to blow another speaker as we are sitting in the cramped Taxi-brousse and trying to catch a few Z's. But, it has been our pleasure and amusement to watch the few music videos that have circulated throughout the island and are shown in the small roadside restaurants. I'll try my best to give them justice... As most islands seem to be, they are a couple of decades behind the times with their biggest influences seeming to be the old but oh so good Bon Jovi and possibly a touch of the old Mariah Carey- good stuff. Anyway, they look like they were all filmed in someone's backyard or possibly the local parking lot. No additional lighting or fancy stuff- just good ol' booty shakin'. The women are on the larger side of the Malagasy women we have seen and just sing and dance with people in the back smiling and nodding. The booty shakin' is PG compared to the U.S. music videos- it's more of the booty shake you would do if your grandparents were watching- showing just enough leg through the sarong😊 It's so much better that we can't understand the lyrics because we can just let our imagination run wild... Maybe we'll gather some friends in the backyard and film one when we get back😊
Oh yes, can't forget the homeade Yogurt... During our dinner stop of our epic long taxi brousse ride back to Tana my stomach was already a little upset- but I was looking aimlessly for anything to settle it and well yogurt usually seems to do the trick. Looking back of course one would wonder why I would order yogurt when most places don't even have refridgeration- but what's done is done😊 The women brings out a glass cup of a creamy white substance. I dip my spoon in to stir it up a bit and get an idea of what the consistency might be- After removing the custard colored filmy stuff at the top I dug right in. The flavor was actually not too bad- I'm not sure where the cream came from, local goat, cow etc. but at that point it was too late. I'm hoping that there was fruit mixed in because there was quite a few chunky substances in each bite- but no color difference. The horn of the taxi brousse starting honking so I scarfed the rest of it down and went on my way- It may have been a combo of many things, but my stomach did not agree with that chunky creamy homeade yogurt. Not so much naseau, but weird cramping- this is the last thing I need I thought, I knew they wouldn't pull the bus over if I got sick so I willed my stomach to settle down. Munching on plain bread for a few hours and thinking positively my stomach settled- but I'm pretty sure I'll stick to packaged yogurt from here on out...
