17th November
Drove from Villafranc to Olite today. We visited the castle. The king who built it back in 1402 wasn´t interested in war but building his castle - he wasn´t that successful as a king but he has an awesome castle.

There´s alot of rooms for the queen and the king but not many for anyone else. In a dark part of the grounds was an egg shaped thing and theywould put in ice there and stor it for the summer. The Queen had her own garden 2 stories up.

From Olite we drove to our campground in Mendigorria. Huge place all to ourselves.

18th San Sebastian
Left our campground heading toward San Sebastian but we had 2 stops on the way. One was to Puente la Reine and its beautiful bridge and then to Iglesia de St. Maria de Eunate. it is an octaganal church and its really little. All the churches we have seen have beautiful doors and this one was really nice.

Then to the beach. We parked by the beach and stepped out of hugo - the smell was great and so too was the surf.

We had lunch in a Pintxos bar. It´s simple you go to the bar guy and tell himwhat you want. You sit back down - 1 minute later you have your food. Its all like finger food, called tapas, most of its served on a slice of baguette. We had spider crab, cod, squid, sardines, oysters, parma ham, choriozo then a beer and fizzy wine for mum. As you leave you pay for everything you´ve devoured. There was soccer on the TV which made it even better.

We got normal haircuts!!!!! Spainish barbers they´re good. We look tidy now. Mum´s happy. Dad didn´t recognize us.

This coast isn´t as built up as the Barca coast. There´s still alot of the old town here. The streets are narrow and full of people and bars everywhere full of tapas. We like it here.

The drive from Pamplona here was interesting. The landscapes changed heaps. Basque country is hills which a green and have sheep. Lots of trees but no olives, oranges, almonds or grapes.

The beach looks great. Saw surfers but the waves aren´t that fast.

20th November
Spent the day wandering the streets and playing on the internet. Ate lots today. Went to a restaurant for lunch. Dad ate lots of fish and we got some red meat. Leaving for France tomorrow to stay in a hotel´- we´re all looking forward to it.

Glad to catch up!!
Julie was talking about your blog the other day so I asked her for the address. Glad to see what you are up to! Pamplona, Puente la Reina....those are places I walked through so they instantly conjure up memories. Getting very wintry there now I see!!! Will have to read what you have done and where you have been. All the best, Margaret R
