So the last update the question was to study or to wine..... well neither happened of course!
Saturday took a walk around Vaparaiso, passed a free concert from a group called Pachamama de Valparaiso, absolutely brilliant and ended staying for the whole performance and bought both cds. Met up with Brian, a friend from the Santiago hostel crew. Went to a crazy restaurant in the evening. The walls and tables were covered in graffiti, shelves crammed with a random assortment of nick-nacks, and passport photos plastered everywhere. Music by 2 old boys, one singing, and the other on the accordian, the menu was simple - huge plates piled with meat, onions, egg and chips. Went on to a few bars after, but Sunday was election day, so everything closed early.
Sunday everything was still closed so we chilled out on the beach in Viña del Mar, a very relaxed day.
Monday was class, and in the evening went out for a few drinks with Brian and Mike, another guy from the hostel. Got chatting to a group of Chileans on the table next to us, they were great fun, and they invited us to join them for lunch the next day
on a boat. So Tuesday after class we went down to the harbour to meet Michael Pugh and Juan, spent a few hours with them over lunch and then Pugh insisted taking us for awalk around the back streets of Valparaiso - the guy knows everyone! Took an ascensor up to Cerro Artilleria where we were me by Juan with his car. They then drove us to a town called Ulmue, about 30 minutes inland, to the house of Lorena and Eduardo for a chill out by the pool and a bbq in the evening. Since then they have completely adopted us, Brian had to go back to Santiago on Wednesday but Mike and I have spent the last couple of days up at the house in Olmue, relaxing with Lorena, playing with Martin - the cutest kid ever! and another friend Adolfo. We have been taken onto the Naval base in Santiago to meet Pugh's brother, had lunch in the Naval club in Viña. The evenings have been spent eating, drinking and chatting with our new friends.
They have now brought us back to Reñaca on the coast for the weekend. Absolutely amazing!!
