After several days enjoying Darwin the time arrived for us to meet up with fellow travellers for our APT Tour from Darwin to Broome...as usual when folks meet for a tour everyone is a little quiet and very polite.
Before long we were all seated at our 'Welcome Dinner' and we met Chris our Tour Director and Trevor our Coach Driver, both very pleasant. As we continued through our tour we found them to be friendly and helpful right to the end when we said our farewells!
The following morning after an early breakfast we were on our way to Katherine, a town situated south of Darwin...we enjoyed a Dinner Cruise on the Katherine Gorge admiring the Aboriginal Art as we went along.
Passing over Knotts Crossing we crossed the border into Western Australia and The Kimberley.
At Lake Argyle we joined an Ord River Cruise, we stopped along the way for afternoon tea then continued further down the river to Kununurra.
Everyone was getting along well...Ann and Virginia had a chat as they waited outside the loos!
Lake Argyle is often referred to as an inland sea and the water volumne in the Lake
is 12 times the volumne of Sydney Harbour. Lake Argyle is the catchment area for the Ord River, there has been a Hydro Power Station built which supplies 70% of the power for the Argyle Diamond Mine.
Several of us deceided to take the optional Bungle Bungles Tour...off to Kununurra air strip we boarded the small Alligator Airline aircraft with one engine...packed in like sardines off we went! You cannot appreciate the full size of Lake Argyle until you fly over it...we then proceeded further south and were amazed at the sight of the Bungles!
The striped appearance of the domes is due to a natural covering of silica and algae...very unique!
Virginia thinks they looked like very yummy French pastries from the air...a photographers dream!
After landing we were collected in a 4 wheel drive small bus and taken to the Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge, after settling in our very comfy tent we joined the other guests for breakfast...bacon and eggs yum!
Off we went to explore Echidna Chasm, Cathedral Gorge and Piccaninny Creek and inspect the domes up close...what a sight!
We were fortunate enough to have a lady at the Lodge
who was also on the walk to Cathedral Gorge...an opera singer who just started to sing Ava Maria...talk about acoustics, it sounded fantastic!
Arriving back at our tent a bit weary we had a shower and got ready for dinner...see photo of Virginia after the days walk!
Gathering around the camp fire for a few drinks the events of the day were talked over while the aroma from the Webbers made us all anxious for dinner...we were not dissappointed!
Back over to our tent for an early night...see other photo of Virginia tucked in bed for the night...it was FREEZING cold and apparently she must have grabbed whatever she could in the middle of the dark night to keep her head warm...panties for a night cap!
Next morning we deceided to go for a little walk about the Lodge, Richard and Keith were busy taking photos and spotted Mr and Mrs Cockato making a home in a hollow tree...what a lovely start to the day.
Before we knew it our couple of days at the Bungles was over and we were once again on board Alligator Airlways for our flight to El Questro...

Love the undies
What a wonderful trip it brings back so many memories for us. We did the Ord river cruise and we loved it and Hans did the fly over the RIver and Bungles I was a chicken and stayed back at the caravan park and watched a video of it all. You both look fantastic and I cant wait for the next edition. Love Narelle and Hans
